JUST4BOOST

Guest
Hi guys I am new to the forum. I heard about it thru Callaway Cars directly and I am looking to buy a 1990 , 6spd coupe. Anyway my original desire was for a 91 non aerobody coupe but after speaking to Joanne I have learned there were only 3 built. Which at least gave me hope till we realized that 2 are in Germany and the other in England. So if anyone has or knows of a 90 model for sale or someone who could be coaxed into selling let me know. Lastly this looks to be a very well done site for Callaway cars and I hope to meet some of you in the future

JUST4BOOST,

I'm not fortunate enough to own a Callaway, but welcome to :CAC from way up here in Ontario.

:w

Welcome I hope you find the Callaway your looking for!

Hi all , I did check the thread and I have some sources hunting down leads for me as well. I am lucky to know quite a few dealers in the NJ ,NY,CT and PA areas. So I have them all looking out , one dealer here in NJ has 4 Callaway cars including a 90 Coupe , 94 ZR1 and some earlier Turbo Verts. He just wont part with any of them LOL. The search continues !!!

Welcome to the Callaway Forum @ the :CAC

Interesting about the 91's - I knew they were rare, but what ever happened to the black one that was in the Mid-west, by-way of Cali. :confused Did it leave the country...

Again, Welcome :m

Update

Does anyone have proof of Callaway twin turbos built on 1992-1996 LT1 or ZR1 Vettes. My guy has located a owner in Florida with a 1994 Twin turbo ZR1 and a 1993 LT1 Twin Turbo with a low compression Supernatural motor. Owner is adimant that these are factory built Callways , not aftermarket hack jobs. Owner also owns some very odd but factory built cars. For instance a Ferrari 456 shooting brake or station wagon , a twin supercharged Aston Martin V8 Vantage and a Porsche 993 Slope Nose Twin Turbo coupe. Apparently all factory built cars. My understanding is that the Ferrari & Aston were built to US specs for the Sultan of Brunei. Someone please tell me if any of this makes sense. I looking around online for more info , help please !!!

Callaway did 3 TT ZR1s(one of them is for sale for ~$150k) and absolutely ZERO TT LT1s. Id be very leary of this guy.

Good Info Bro , thanks !!! Any others .... Need all I can get here !

The first thing to try when they say it's "factory" might be to call the factory. Callaway at least is quite helpful with information about cars they have worked on. Get the vin from this guy, and give Callaway a call.

On ZR-1's, you can also check out ZR-1 owners for info, either at corvetteforum.com or zr1netregistry.com/forum. I suspect if it's been TT'd, someone over there will know something about it. There aren't too many twin-turbo LT5's out there.

Also, it's possible Callaway did work on an LT1 car, and then it was later twin-turboed. I believe *89x2* had some picts from Colorado of a '96 Grand Sport that had a Callaway motor that was later TT'd. If you were to look at it with the Callaway valve covers and such, it might be a reasonable (though incorrect) assumption that Callaway did the turbo work.

I got some docs and a Vin this morning. The car is a real supernatural as delivered new for this guy. Has custom red leather interior , coilovers , brakes , supernatural motor and exhaust system. He then by his account went back 7 months later and asked for a twin turbo and was told no. They told him they dont offer one on the 92 up cars. He then pushed the issue and got them to agree. The paperowork shows this as a very pricey conversion and also with no warranty. Nor any implied ability to pass emissions testing. I think Its real I have the Vin , ran by a guys at FC Kerbeck and they say it checks out. He's looking for $60k is this reasonable or what , car has 8168 miles. PPG Silver paint , has CCW wheels now but will include orignal factory wheels.

I would like to see the documentation on a Callaway TT LT1...forgive me but Im still very skeptical.

Me too ....very very skeptical....because I asked for years (6 to be exact).....call Joanne Mercer at Callaway Cars and ask her to pull the VIN and the shop tickets. 860-434-9002

and by all means let us know

Well I am just as skeptical as the next guy. So monday will tell all without any question. But based on the original owner , the currents owners relationship with the 1st owner and docs I recieved it may be a winner. One thing thats interesting is the legal disclaimer that came with the car. Stating essentially that its a off road use vehicle. I wont go into specifics but I suspect that this is a telling factor.

I have been at Callaway many many times and have never heard this car. Chris and myself have picked Mike Zoner's mind for cars all the time and never heard of this one .I was with him last night I wish I read this post then As far as it being off road use only is because it does not pass emmisions.
