My 96 LT4 has 110k miles and just developed a screach in the valve train area. I can make it start by reving the engine. Also, the service engine light went on for the first time. SO, into my favorite mechanic it goes. In the mean time, anyone's best gues??? I am thinking rocker arm roller. Appreciate any experiences+how much you spent to fix. Worried parent, Denny Nelson:confused

If the noise is truly a "screech" the first thing to do is stop running the engine.

It's very difficult to diagnose engine noises lke that over the Internet but if it's a "reciprocating" or cyclical screech, it might be valve train. If it's a constant screech, it is likely some other problem.

In any event, don't run the engine until you have an assessment of what the problem is.

Thanks Hib, it is not constant. If I have to guess, it sounds like a rocker arm roller. My Swamy mechanic will know i a couple hours and I will post. Denny

If you need new rockers and the price from GM is extreme, try calling Crane Cams, as they were the OE supplier of the LT4 rockers, they may have replacements for less cost.
