New member needs help : problem with VIN for C5 convertible

Hello every Corvette's lovers,

I'm Régis, located in France, and I love Corvettes forever.

I'm 45 old and I just decided to buy my first Corvette.

My choice is for a wonderful C5 Convertible ls1 z51 full black produced in 1999.

I commanded this used but like new car in a Corvette specialist i Germany.

I have a big problem with the VIN of this car : the VIN starts 1G1YY2
For a convertible, it must be 1G1YY3

On the Service Parts Identification Label, the type indicated is well 1YY67

My problem is, in France, we use the VIN to register the car, but the VIN indicates the car is a coupe, not a convertible, so the risk for me is that i will not be able to register this car and will have to destruct it because not conform.

Have someone any information to give me ?

What is the VIN # on the driver side top dash, and on the driver door? They need to match.

The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky, and GM customer service may be able to help. Have all your vehicle info in front of you if you contact them.

The "C05" on the label indicates "Folding Top, Convertible"
And the "41T" indicates a black convertible top,
So it's got at least 2 RPO's for a convertible.

I'm inclined to agree with LLC5, contact the Museum......there does seem to be conflicting info. According to the info here....

The 6th digit in the VIN should be a 3... the "2" indicates it to be a FRC. But the RPO codes Andy lists are correct for a 'Vert'....I'm thinking the Museum may be able to fill in the blanks.

Also shows that it is an export car with T89 (export taillights), U19 (Metric instrument cluster) VD1 (provision options, Europe- whatever that means) options.

I will contact the Corvette Museum but, before, I wait to have photos of the VIN indicated on the driver's door and the driver side top dash.

You definitely have a problem is vehicle registration authorities in France actually look at the car and compare it to the sixth character in the VIN.

It's possible that the service/parts label was misprinted showing a "2" (hardtop) rather than a "3" (convertible).

Does the VIN on the ID plate at the base of the driver-side A-pillar and the VIN on the driver-side B-pillar match the VIN on that label?

Unfortunately, as the car is more than 10 years, it's impossible to have new European Certificat of Conformity.

So we have canceled the transaction.

I have lost my dream, i'm looking for a new every evening.
