I have just joined this group because I am considering the purchase of a C3. I am new to Corvettes, but not to classic cars. I have been collecting for 40+ years, mostly Jaguar and Bentley.

But I have a chance to get a 1970 roadster in a trade and may go there.

It has several obvious problems:
1) engine block number doesnt match
2) interior is wrong color
3) no hard top
4) Auto tranny leaks and slips

Welcome to CAC!!!!
unless you know where the engine is(FAT CHANCE OF FINDING IT)
you will never be able to get it back to NCRS Standards...
You can however do with it what you like!!!!!:thumb
BTW Enjoy!!!:thumb:thumb

I know where the engine is but it had a rod thrown through the block!

Sounds like the best you can hope for is a driver, but since most of us just drive, that's OK. Numbers matching and authentic replacement parts are important for shows and resale value for the purist. If you want to drive and enjoy, restore it to the way you want it to look, and don't sweat the numbers. The car will never be as valuable as a numbers matching car, but you won't overpay for it or be afraid to drive it.

Some of the best looking C3s I have seen are not numbers correct cars.

Well, its only costing me about $20,000...its actually part of a trade.....and it looks good, or so Ive been told, so I guess its worth that.

Thanks for the info. That helps me decide on what to do with it. Now I can put a new 700 tranny in it and not worry about numbers.

Welcome to the cac, good luck with you vette if you go that way.....................Billy:w

Sounds like a fair deal and the 700 transmission will make it a much better driver (at least gas mileage-wise). Oh and welcome to CAC!

Well, the deal fell through so I guess I wont be becoming a corvette owner...just yet. I was swapping an unrestored driver Continental Mark II for the corvette but the other party didnt feel he had the resources to do a full restoration on the Continental so decided against it.

bummer:ugh
