Is that really the goal here though? Or is GM simply cutting corners and combining platforms to save money.....

I have yet to see GM say "Cadillac and Chevrolet are combining forces to create the best 'vette yet" Not that it would be in those exact words, but you would think they would be promoting the "Cadillac level" of build quality.

Each part used on both lines is a cost savings. Sharing of fixed overhead costs is cost savings. Cutting costs is NOT the same as cutting corners. We are not talking about sharing parts with a Cavalier here. The XLR market is UPscale and will not be using cheap parts.

If I were the Vette boys, I'd let the quality improvements speak for themselves. Boasting to car rag guys about Cad target levels (a dubious target just a few short years ago) only invites ridicule if even the smallest of problems occurs. The paint improvements should, however be boasted about (after a brief confirming inspection).

My .02 is that I'm certainly not impressed. I saw on Autoweek (?)this AM on Speedchannel and the rear "doublebubble" (as they put it) was kinda, can I say, Ugly! The front end?, I think they could have done better. Harley Earl, where are you when we need you:w
