2000 Light Pewter Metallic Coupe
I have a 2000 Coupe and I am getting ready to replace my OEM Goodyear Eagle F1 Run-flats and have been reasearching potential replacements. I am interested in reducing the road noise that the Goodyears are blamed for and so far the leading candidates are the Michelin Pilot Sport and the Yokohama AVS. Both have been given raves for improved noise abatement and improved handling (with some exceptions).

I have also read in the technical notes that some other manufacturers' tires may interfere with the tire-pressure sensors in the wheels due to the steel used in constructing/reinforcing the sidewalls, so GM recommends that the only tires used should be the Goodyear Eagle F1 with the GS (?) designation.

Anybody had any problems with other manufacturers' tires? I'd especially like to hear from Y2K owners who've gone ahead and replaced their Goodyears with something else, whether you've loved it or hated it. Thanks.

Go with the Michelin Pilot Sport and check with "thetirerack.com" for the best price.

Good choice

I bought Michelin ZP last January and I am very pleased with them in every respect. All season means I can actually drive in snow, but more importantly, in rain. There is no problem with the pressure sensors if these tires are dismounted and mounted properly.

I used a TireRack installer in Illinois that turned out to be great for all service.

check with www.tirerack.com to see if GoodYear has released their new runflats (from the C6) in C5 sizes.
 
I am very happy with the Michelin Pilot Sports. Much quieter and better dry & wet handling. I now carry a small compressor and plug kit.
 
I did a lot of researching, web stuff, checking tire sites and manufacturer articles and checking the threads on the "action" site. Like others that have replied, I checked the tire rack site, and checked for a referenced local dealer on the tire rack site. I had the Michelin Pilots installed yesterday an the local dealer and I am very, very pleased. The tires made all the difference in the world over the OEM goodyears on my 98 convertible. The originals had 23 K on the rears and they were balding slick really fast, and the fronts were leaving black tread dust all over the garage, so I had to make the move for new tires.

The local tire shop had a fellow experienced in corvette tires, so it was easy off, easy on, and the tire sensors came back up, no problem. I put 150 miles on the car yesterday and highly recommend the michelins.

Wherever you get your tires, check the place installing them for previous work on vettes- thanks MikenAtlanta
 
i had the Michelin Pilot Sport on my benz and i loved the way they performed

i wouldnt get anything else.

and believe it or not they lasted me for about 70 thousand miles with in the first year of the before i had to change them out.
 
speaking of the Run-flats ... my right year has a gash on the sidewall ... losing to tire pressure from it ... can the sidewall be repaired without replacing the whole tire? The rest of the tire is in damn good shape.

ElectroCulture i believe tha the side wall can not be repaired

this happens to me all the time because of our pot wholes in new york, i often get bumps on the sidewall s of the tire.

Nope, sidewalls cannot be repaired. You'll probably end up buying new tires for the right and left in the rear.

Yeah I figured. I patched it for now with no loss of tire pressure. I'll keep an eye on them and see how it goes for now.

I also believe that you cannot use the green stuff in a can. I think it's called "Fix a flat." I was told that will damage the LTPWS.

As for using only Goodyear, I think that's BS. You have to remember that GM has contracted Goodyear to as the tire for Corvette and I'm sure they have some kind of one hand washes the other agreement. IMO, GY tires are overrated. Are they good tires? Yes, but I think you can get a tire just as good for less money.
 
Here is one more vote for Michelin. The Michelin Pilot Sport tires have much better wet performance (no problems with hydroplaning in the rain) than the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires for the Z06 and are almost as good in Dry performance.

Regarding runflat vs. non-runflat, you will have more noise regardless of which runflat you use in comparison to a non-runflat tire. Whether the noise is objectionable or not; that is a personal decision. I have 265/40-17 and 295/35-18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires installed on Z06 rims. The tire pressure sensors work on all four wheels. I carry the Z06 flat tire kit in case I get a flat (so far so good - no flats). If I get a flat, the tire pressure sensor will need to be replaced. Again, it is a personal choice - you can have better performance if you are willing to pay for it. So far, I have not been bitten, so I am happy with my choice. If I had experienced 3 or 4 flats and the associated expense of removing the tire from the wheel and replacing the pressure sensor each time, I don't know if I would be as happy with my decision.
