1989 Callaway Twin Turbo Aerobody Coupe
Hi everyone I am new to the club . I just put a down payment on my 1st Callaway twin turbo coupe. What a beauty. Can any one tell me how to bring the horsepower up on the car not looking to go to crazy but want to get it up to at least 403 like the 91 callaway . What ever input is greatly appreciated. Thank you Pete

WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the club!!! :Twist What are the details on your Callaway? It isn't the on that was for sale out of NJ was it? (Red/Red 6 spd?)
As far as mods, you can purchase the "upgraded WONDERBAR" and related parts directly from Callaway Cars. Stan A. and David F. are the "resident B2K Guru's" when it comes to stuff like this and I am sure they will chime in...
On a side note, I think I saw your post where you plan on attending the Callaway Owners Group Reunion at the 2002 Corvettes@Carlisle show... Look forward to seeing you and your B2K there! I have anticipated 2 dozen twin turbo Callaway's and 10+ "Supernatural" Callaway's to be in attendance. BE SURE to check back at the web site I have put up about this event as I found out some good information and will have confirmation shortly (Website will be updated as things are set in stone) :Twist
Once again, WELCOME!!!! and post away!!!

1989 callaway coupe

Yes it is the one in New Jersey. It is number 016 It has 3300 miles it is in perfect condition. Has the fx3 sport seats perfomance handling package electronic climate control . The car is great.I pick it up next week.

Hi Pete - Welcome to the "club". Nice low mileage car you have there. The best way to make good power is to make sure everything on your car is functioning properly and all lines on the intake side are tight with no air leaks. Believe it or not there aren't too many TT's that actually run well. There really aren't many people out there that understand them and Callaway is little help.

The upgraded Wonderbar for the air intake is indeed a good mod if you don't have it. Also, what does your boost gauge read at WOT? You can probably crank the boost up a little bit safely if you run good gas. There are manual wastegates with screws that you adjust on the turbos. I'll let Stan or David explain that one in detail if you're interested. Around 56 is safe with high octane unleaded. I run 58-60 but blend in 114 octane race gas (1 part to 2 parts 94 unleaded). Also, the catalytic converter is a huge restriction on the exhaust side. You may want to consider a new exhaust all the way back if you have the stock one.

You should come close to 500hp and 700ft/lb torque at the flywheel with these minor changes.

Hopefully all us Callaway guys on the East Coast will get to meet up at Carlisle. :beer

Congrats on the purchase - where in NY are you?

What year is the TT?

One piece of advice - get out and drive that car!

Dave

Pete,

Congratulations! and welcome aboard.

Hope to see you all @ Carlisle.

Luigi

P.S. Oh and as Callaway 95 said, get out and drive it.
It will appreciate it as much as you will.

That's certainly a loooooowwww mileage car. Glad to see you picked it up! We can catch up at Carlisle over the summer!

If you're planning on driving it, I would take the time to go over everything on it. Especially the tires. I bought an '87 low mileage TT a little whilie back that still had the original Goodyear Gatorbacks on it. Ouch! Excellent tread! Bad dry rot! Looks like they'd split themselves in half hitting the right bump!

Welcome to the CAC and post with any questions. Everyone's willing to help out!

Welcome to the Callaway Family

Suggest that you contact me directly at:
stanadelman@attbi.com

This will be easier and most of what we will discuss everyone here already knows.

Do you have all the paper work on your car. When you email me, post/attach the following if possible:

1. Current mileage again
2. Pics would be nice...Especially underhood and a few close ups from the underside carriage would help. This will give us more info on the current exhaust setup.
3. Exterior and interior shots
4. Full description including all options would be helpful.

My phone number is 770-993-0023. Feel free to call any evening if you want to discuss anything.

Again, welcome to the Callaway family.......................

88 Callaway

Hello to all of the Callaway owners! My name is Lou and I just purchased a 1988 red twin turbo Callaway coupe. I bought the car from Unique Corvettes here on Long Island. The original owner was the owner of Husdadt Chevrolet. The second owner had it from 1989 until I bought it. The car has 9,867 miles and is 100% original and in showroom new condition. The car is equipped with every available option including the Z51 handling package and a factory option dealer installed areo kit.The exterior is bright red with red leather sports seats and a blue transparant roof panel. The car also has the original tires and Callaway dymag wheels.I took it out today for the first time and I can't tell you what a great satifying feeling it was to send the car off like a rocket ship when I gave it a little juice on the highway. Better that the ZR1

Good luck LOU

Hey Lou good luck on your purchase. The car sound like mine only a year earlier. Are you thinking of heading down to Carlisle for the Reunion?

Hey Lou,

Welcome to the Forum !!!

And Congratulations on your purchase.

Hope you can come to Corvettes@Carlisle.
Please post some pictures when you have some time.

Luigi

Welcome Lou! The "club" grows by one. We need to keep getting these cars into the hands of people that will appreciate and care for them. It's nice to see another one go to a good home.! :beer

See you all at the Reunion@Carlisle!

Fella's, congrat's to both of ya on your recent purchases! I hope both of you strongly consider coming down to the Callaway Owners Group Reunion at Corvettes@Carlisle in August 2002 :dance

Welcome to a very unique group of Corvette owners!

Hi Lou,

Everyone has said it but I will say it again..Welcome aboard!!!!

Since you are a new owner, if you have any questions or need help, you have come to thr right place. There are great people here!

David F is the key Callaway Specialist here on the CAC (16 years Callaway experience). If you have a problem, you can email him directly at: dfulcher5@juno.com

David also consults with our consumer test group- Auto Performance Test Lab. You can reach him here at: APTL@attbi.com

We all would like to see your car. In order to help you more effectively should the need arise, please send to us pictures. Suggest: two shots of the exterior, one inside the car, two shots under the hood, and three shots of the underside while the car is on a lift.

It is our experience that past the first owner some things get changed. Sometimes small things and sometimes big things. I am not saying this is the case with your car. But it pays to be ready.

Again, well aboard...... Take care, be careful, and keep in touch.

Stan A

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to seeing you all this summer.
Lou
