2004 MY Convertible
Just bought a 2004 convertible- not even delivered yet😀 My question is is the steering lock problem exist for this year in the automatic? Thanks

Welcome to CAC. :w I think you're OK. But before you go and spend money on the column lock things, make certain that your battery is up to snuff. Our resident C4C5Specialist says most column lock issues are result of the battery not putting out the correct voltages/reserve capacity/cold cranking. I don't remember what those numbers are supposed to be, but it is worth it to check the specs and make sure they are met. Some of those by-passes are damaging to other components.

Check out the videos and associated thread I took at a seminar with Paul (C4C5specialist)

Not that I know of! It was only 1997 - 2000 or 2001.
It's actually a very easy fix. I did my 2000 in about 20 minutes. After installing the column lock bypass , LMC5 is the part to fix the rest of the problem.

Thanks for the info. I’ll see what happens and then decide what to do

The column lock problem was a big deal back when the C5 was new but most owners had a column lock bypass installed or had a recall done so I haven't heard anything about it in years! Welcome to the CAC!

As mentioned, battery voltage. Let, the battery go dead or way down may cause it.. All the more reason to drive more or buy a float charger.

Thanks very much! I think I’m not going to worry about it - probably reading too many old forums!

Thanks a lot - I am going to make sure that doesn’t happen!

In SC, that is easily possible.. We have a house close to Landrum, SC and basically we can drive year round. I do have a float charger for periods of bad weather. Heck, she stays in the garage when it rains or until the rain washes the road salt off from the rare snows.. ;)

Thanks for the info - I think I can drive enough here in SC to keep a battery charged

The recall didn't correct the problem.
