Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

New to the Z-06 world

Congrats on the new Z! I enjoyed the story line too..

Brought back quite a few memories and had a few laughs..

Way to go!

Hi Heavy Duty -

Sounds like a nice Z - and of course I love your color choice...;)

You can eliminate the Computer Aided Gear Selection (CAGS) with either a 415 plug-in harness, or by having your car professionally computer tuned.

I did the harness first, and then had the car tuned and later remove the harness.

Best regards -

mqqn

The CAGS only comes into play when the car is warmed up and you shift out of first before 20 mph or something like that.

When the oil temps below 150 degrees I shift at or below 4000 rpms...but once its warmed up out of habit I never shift out of first before 25mph...

I never activate cAGS.

HTH

Enjoy the car!

Thanks guys. Yeap...already P.O.ed at the CAGS. I cannot figure out why someone would want to put a useless piece of crap like that on a car:mad . Besides, it is a pain in the A**. This past weekend while crusing the CAGS did it's thing and some of the guys thought I was a green horn and didn't know how to drive the car:eyerole. All i have to say is I now have one of the eliminators on order and yes i did find out that I can have it removed from the program once I get the car tuned.. which i intend to do. I did read in the manual that you can go to 2nd gear after you go to 4th. But what good is that?

On another note...coming back up here to Boston Sat night I ran up on this older model Honda Accord with a fart can and a clown for a pilot at Harrisburg, PA. I was driving the stang (yes I know...it is a yellow ,99 GT. I would sell it but the offers I've had are way too low and before i give it away I'll just keep driving it). As I was merging onto I-81 this clown wouldn't let me in...so I slowed down..he slowed down...I speeded up and he did the same. After several renditions on this and about to run out of lane it was clear this guy was trying to run me onto the shoulder. So I made one last attempt to act like I has going to speed up. I shifted to 4th at 60 MPH got on the gas and when I heard the clown's fart can as he got on it, I quickly got on the brakes hard and got behind him. Tried to get him to pull over but the clown wouldn't. Each time I tried to grab a lane he would counter move. So I got behind a Ford Expo and the clown cut him off. He did that to several people several times almost causing several wrecks. So I got on the cellphone and called the PA state cops and they were waiting for him at the 81-74 split. When they pulled him over, several of us pulled over as well and told the cops what this guy was doing. Boy was he a real punk and put up a real seen. I also think that he was drugged up because it took three of them to cuff him. Since I go that way a lot looks like I better have the 2 brothers ready just in case I run across this guy again. I am sure he'll be out to get even. I will say that that Honda was very fast. It was all the stang could do to stay with him when he would accelerate. Correct me if I am wrong, but did the early model Accords have the same engine as the Acura? And that the older Accords are more preferred cars to bomb because you can get a lot of cheap HP?

Thanks again.

H.D.

Good for you. He got what he deserved.

Holy Crap! :eek

That kid definately needed to be taken off the road! Keep your eyes open- in case he's out for revenge.

I've been driving for over 30 years and NEVER have I seen such a display. I guess what happened could be considered road rage. Although I think, as i said before, that drugs had a hand in this kid's behavior. That was certainly not the time, nor the place to be pulling that stunt. There was a lot of traffic and this kid could have cause someone to have been hurt or killed.

Screw the pics. Wait til mod fever sets in. Get yourself a Veraram or something else and you're doomed.
;) It's like a disease! Fortunately there's no cure. Going with a set of AFR heads this winter. Lower the CR and up the boost!!:D

Congrats on the Z HD! You obviously have fine taste in color!!;)

Thanks Z06 Tom. The more i drive the car the more I'm loving it. I am going Sat to pick up a set of Borla Stingers. Need to get rid of the wimpy exhaust sound. The place I'm going to get them has a sale going on right now. So is $779.99 a good price for a set of 4 tipped Borla Stingers? H.D.

I think I'd shop around a bit. If this price is installed, it's in the ballpark. I think I paid aroud $700.00 for mine, but I installed them myself. It's very easy if you can get the car up in the air so you can remove the stock TIs. They're one piece, and you can't get them over the rear end if the car's not in the air. The Stingers are two piece, and go on easily.

Here's what mine look like:

Z06 Tom,
Nice set up...heck nice car. Two questions..1. where did you get yours from? 2. Can you work with the exhaust if you back the car onto a set of ramps? If not, then I have a friend who might let me use his lift to get the car up in the air. I don't think the $779.99 includes install. But, that price so far has beat Ecklers, Jegs, and a couple of others I've seen so far. Hey, I am going to do the lettering like you have on the back end of your car. I was toying between red, black, and chrome (Cracked Ice) lettering. But looking at yours I think red is the color. Besides, it will match the interior since it is black/red.

Thanks for the advice.

I got mine from "Pickups Plus" here in Columbus, Oh. I buy stuff for my company trucks from them, and they're a Borla dealer. If you've shopped around, that may be what they're going for now.

You're gonna need your friends lift. Ramps won't get you high enough. You need to get around 30" off the ground.

Thanks for the compliment on the lettering. Red will look sharp on your car with the MR interior.

Hi Heavy Duty -

You might look in parts for sale sections of your favorite forums - there are many folks who sell nice used systems that are removed from trade in's etc.

It'll save you enough cash to have the system installed at a muffler shop, and take your significant other out on the town, plus a tank of gas.

I have not been able to find what I want for our 99, and I could not stand the stock exhaust on that car - so I bought two twin-outlet resonator tips and had the stock mufflers cut off, and a new system welded up using the stock over-the-axle pipes welded to new extensions that go directly out to the tips.

It sounds mean - burbles like an old Ram Air GTO...

It resonates pretty "good" at 80mph (we have a 3:15 perf axle), but at 65-70 it is just a nice meaty hum.

It cost me $175 or so with a $20 tip for my muffler guy.

BTW...whatcha going to do with your stock Ti takeoff system? :D :L

Hi all, I am also new to the Zo6 world as well as to Corvette and this forum.:D I just recently bought my "Dream Car" a '04 Z16 Commemoritive Edition what a car! I was really lucky to get it. First of all I wanted one since I was a kid (along time ago) and from some luck I won a '04 Nissan 350Z Roadster from Q107FM radio station here in Calgary from a online contest. When I was told I won the car, I immediatly thought I would trade it for a Vette. Then I thought I should use common sense and sell it and put a down payment on a house. When I tried to see how much I could get for it, I went to my Chevy dealer to get a price from them and they made me a deal on a Z16 that I couldn't turn down so I though common sense out the window and traded the "little z" for the "BIG Z".
The car is amazing and unfortunatly it's put away for winter, I only have put just over 500 miles on her. I guess when spring comes it should be broken in and have some real fun!:L Over the winter I want to put a subwoofer in and to get rid of CAGS. I have bought a blue carbon fiber air bridge and K&N filter for it already. It's really hard not to "mod" it to much.
I'll stop this rambling now. Later!

Doug

Hey Doug,
Ramble on! We understand how it is :D
Congrats on your CE. Those are sweeeeet! What a cool story about winning the "little z" :L
At least you got to put a few hundred miles on before the winter set in. I have a feeling it will take longer for this spring to arrive than any other spring in history ;).

Congrats Doug. Great way to move into a larger Zzz. I too have always wanted to own a vette since I was a kid. I bought my first ('86 coupe) two years ago. Although it is not a Z-06, I still love that car and it still amazes me every time I drive it. In spite of the low HP, the car is very quick. I now have it in the shop having a new paint job put on it and when it gets home I'll be re-doing the interior. So the serious mods to the Zzz will have to wait until I've finished with the '86. The '86 only has 43,000 miles on it. The Zzz already has 16,000 miles. The bad thing is I can only drive one at a time. I'll have to park the 2 vettes, the Mustang, and the pickup in a circle and spin the bottle to see which one to drive on nice days:upthumbs .

OBTW, out of all the vette web sites, this is the best. Great folks and they are very helpful should you ever need advice. Some of the guys over on the Z-06vette site have serious inferiority complexs. Other than that it too is a good site.

Good luck and don't forget to :w.

Doug,
What a great story! A cop in the town I work for won a brand new Harley Davidson softail from a local radio station about a year ago- and he ended up trading it in on a Fatboy. Congratulations, not only on the bit of luck you had, but with throwing common sense out! :L

Seriously, I know you will love your Z06. I have to admit, now that we're into December, my time between the wheel is dramatically reduced, too (although, I haven't quite put her away entirely- had a great little trip through a town I used to work for Saturday, just to see what's changed over there in the past four years. Interesting trip down memory lane...but a story for another time.)

As for the house, any radio station real estate giveaways going on up there?

:w

Whats too much mean? I haven't figured that out yet. (just ask my wife) Hey, that's what credit is for!!:naughty:

Thanks everyone, That's the only thing I ever won and glad it turned into a Vette. Tammy, I also think it will seem forever for spring to arrive since I have a new toy. I even got do drive the Z today :cool but unfortunatly it's was only to move it off a hoist, back into the street and move it over 1 bay. :ugh It snowing here so it was a quick move (who said I never would take it out in the snow)LOL. It's over at a detail shop getting it's first polish and protection package. I'm also getting the clear stone gaurd put on and tinting the windows.
H.D. you will have to post some pic's of your '86 when your finished. I know what you mean with a choice of vehicles to drive, I have a similar situation with other vehicles but if its nice out I don't need to think which one to take out. It will be the Vette! Thanks for the info. on the other site, but what I have seen here I know this is the best site.
Patrick, that cop that won the Harley nice choice. It's nice to know people that win big things, but it's even better when you win. I'm hoping we get El Nino and have a mild winter and maybe get to take the Z out for a little spin. The last El Nino about 5 or 6 years ago it really mild and was 70 degrees at Christmas. That was a great gift and request the same this year. I keep on checking all those contests now, but no houses yet just the usual CD's and concert tickets.
Zo6 Tom, I hear you about too much and credit. I went through that with my last ride spend, spend and apend. The temptation is really strong to "mod" it out but I want to keep it looking original at least. I still have that "more power " syndrome, can't getaway from it.:naughty:
