I just purchessed my first Corvette. I have always wanted a Vette as I worked my way around the altimate American performance car with T/A's, Z28's, and Mustangs. I bought an 86 coup witch was all I could afford with my finances. I love the car and its been all I expected. I do however have two problems I havent been able to solve on her yet. The first problem is when I get on the Eway. As I cruize around at about 75 mph on my way to work the Check Engine light comes on after about 20 miles or so. The code It pulls is a Code 32, witch is an EGR code. When I shut the engine off the light dont return till I get back on the Eway. I can drive around all day on the normal roads and no check engine light? Any Ideas Why? The secound problem is also more noticable on the Eway. Taking a sharper turn at express way speeds makes the car feel like one of those cars at Disney World that drives on tracks. In the turn the front tires want to kick back strait like its bumping against a rail. I hope someone can help with these problems so I can Continue to enjoy my New (New to Me anyway) pride and joy!

Bumping against the rail

You may want to have the alignment checked. Also could indicate front bearing have too much play.

Bearing play?

How do I check the amount of play in the bearings?

What about the code?

What about the code 32 on the Interstate?

You have an intermittment code 32 . It will go on and off until you fix the problem . Then you will need to clear the code . Cliff

Welcome Goldenrod!

I hope your problem is an easy fix. As you can see, we have friendly and helpful members here at CACC. Come back often and let us know how you and your new vette are doing!

Bearing check

Get the wheel off the groung and out a dial indicator on the rim (outer lower part). Rock the wheel back-and-forth and look for the dial reading. I believe the allowed movement on mine was only about .015". You can check the spec book for the reading. Mine indicated right at the limit and I choose to replace the hub rather than take a chance.

While you have the setup in place you can check the run-out of the rim itself by rotating it and check for run-out to be less than .003".

Lots of Luck

Code 32

9 times out of 10 with the symptoms you described about your Code 32 it is the EGR temp switch. It is located on the EGR pipe which runs from the Intake Manifold to the Exhaust Manifold, it has a single green wire attached to the top of it. The cost is $10 at the dealer and takes about 5 minutes to replace. Replace it, clear the code, test drive it on the highway at steady speed for about 20 minutes and most likely that code is a memory.

I had the same problem on my '89, I replaced the temp switch and haven't seen the Code 32 in 15k miles.

I figured for the cost and minimal time to replace it, it was well worth the chance.

As a new vette owner, you might learn quite a bit from the following link. On the "home" page, click on the button "In Depth Info", and then on ECM codes. You will be provided a list of codes, and possible resolutions. Included in this link are many informative pages. I recommend printing out those pages that may apply to your vette. Good luck...............
