New vette owner questions ????

Hello Daryllawman! Looks like the thread has been posted in the off road lounge forum and as of now has been getting responses, only to me as I started thread I guess. Best thing to do is go there and click on "receive updates to this thread" so that you will be in-the-know regarding new posts. See ya there! RJS

Both questions 1&2 answers are in your owner manual, look there and use what is recommended, that is always the best in the long run if it is a conventional use vett. Next best thing to do is buy a maintenance-"Shop manual" manual for it.

Thanks to all that replied to my post

Service engine light is now OUT, replaced MAF relays on firewall, 6 speed now has new BMW oil in it and works great, got a wrench for the top and have removed and replaced it a couple of times, have new switch for cruise control ordered. I now have complete service manual, owners manual and a refurbushed scanner. At this time things are looking good, have her purring like a kitten or a lion when you mash the loud pedal, ride is now good thanks to new shocks and brakes are rebuilt. Next project is radio. Again thanks you all for the help.

Hello 89blackvette! Glad to hear things worked out for you. I'm happy it was your relays as I have the same freggin' light on in my car and already bought the relay. Hope it works out as well 4 me as it did for you! See you along the line...RJS:beer

Ain't it fun

Glad to hear the simple relay replacement repaird you car also. You know I will bet that a dealer would have replaced the ralays AND the MAF sensor. I have owned the Vette for about 6 weeks now and have learned a lot from the experience, one thing is that the people on this forum really try to help and always give good advice. I am a dyed in the wool tinkerer and I am having a ball with the Vette in spite of the few problems with the car. Last week the ignition module decided to die and left me stranded. I ordered the part from Ecklers and it jumped back to life. After all it is 14 years old and has 103000 miles on it. Even at this gae and mileage it performs great and handles like a sports car should. I checked compression soon after purchasing and was surprised to find it within limits on the high side and even between all cylinders. Chevrolet must have taken some pains with it to build a motor that is still running like new (almost) after all these miles and years. Hope you enjoy your Corvette as musch as I do mine.

You are correct about the average dealer replacing everything they could, particularly if both the wrench and the owner are not up on probable causes for things. Reading responses to your questions here can save a lot of trouble/expense from a repair shop as someone on CAC has already had the problem or will offer good, unbiased advice. Cheers! RJS:bu
