Hey Vette-maniacs. :D I'm Matt, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I've been browsing this forum (among other related ones) for quite sometime as it has been a WEALTH of information for me. I'm currently in the market for an 01-02 C5 coupe, 6spd, preferably red, white, or black. Does anyone have any regional-specific tips that I should be made aware of? I've been doing some shopping & CarMax actually has some NICE vehicles. My parents have bought 4 vehicles from them in the past & couldn't be happier. I'm looking to purchase within the next week or so, so ANY information/comments/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks again for making this forum a pleasure to read! :upthumbs

Welcome

Matt, first off, welcome to the :CAC

Being a wealth of information to owners and enthusiasts is just part of the calling for us!

As to your question about tips for searching regionally for C5, I don't have any, but I know someone who does. Rain just completed an exhaustive search for his coupe, and I'm sure he has some useful advice for you: he found his in Virginia and took it back home with him to Mississippi.

Good luck in your search, and I hope you find the Corvette of your dreams!

Matt,

Welcome to the CAC, and good luck with your search.
Now seems to be a good time to be a buyer- winter is here (for many-well maybe not the Ft. Lauderdale denizens ;) ) and the C6's are out.
If you find one and need someone to take a look, there are a lot of friendly and helpful members here who are happy to help out a fellow corvette enthusiast.

Hey guys! Well, after some extensive research, I think I've found the one. It's a 2001, 6spd, 26k miles, black coupe. One owner. Already CarFax'ed the car & it came back perfect. This is also a car being sold by CarMax, so I put my trust in them based on prior experiences. The KBB for Nov-Dec 04 values it at 32k & change. On CarMax's website, I was looking at the car & the price mentioned was $27,998. Great price I thought. So I go to CarMax, talking with one of the reps I know & I notice that on his computer screen the price says some odd ball number like $25,668.54. So I mention it to him & he's like "uhh.. hmmm." :L He makes some calls. Turns out that one of the CarMax employees was going to purchase the vehicle, & because of that, he would get a special discount. Somehow, he backed out of the deal, but CarMax forgot to update the internal price (the price I saw on the screen) back to the one that was commensurate with the website price. We call the manager over & he said that they'd honor the price because they made the mistake. I was pretty floored. They've already updated the price, incase I don't buy it. But they are holding it for me for the next few days. What do you all think? Seems like a combination of some crazy goodluck & an already good price.

I would say its a great price. I purchased mine for 27.9k in August and I had 38k miles on it so I would say you got a pretty good deal as long as the car checks out.

Hi Matt,
Welcome. The car sounds like a good deal. I too have heard good things about CarMax. I am in Ft. Lauderdale also. I have an 84 but am looking for a 99-01 convertible, automatic so girlfriend can drive. Good luck with the buy. Maybe I'll see you cruisin.
Regards,

Jeremy

Hey Jeremy! While I was at CarMax, they had a sweet 2000 dark green automatic vert w/ HUD that they let me test drive. It was in extremely good condition. There was also a red 2001 auto vert as well. Let me know if you plan on lookng at CarMax, as I can get you in touch with some good sales associates/managers there. In the meantime, I would check out www.carmax.com & you can search nationwide for the Vette of your choice.:upthumbs

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the head-up on the green vette. Which Carmax did you go to? I did a search for the green one but cant find it at the sample road location of in the ft. lauderdale/miami search. Thanks.

Jeremy

You know what I've noticed? The Corvettes cycle through the Fort Lauderdale (Davie) store pretty quickly. On the other hand.. I know that some of the cars they take in don't get posted to the website immediately, usually due to them reconditioning/detailing any of the cars they receive. Your best bet would be to just take a ride down there & see for yourself. I'm currently dealing with the Fort Lauderdale store, as it's literally 5 minutes from where I live. I haven't had any experience with the other stores, but I'm sure the quality of service runs throughout the CarMax chain. Either way, let me know if I can help you out in anyway.

Oh man, that is always my downfall....a good deal :L
GO for it!!

Tammy

p.s. I have heard lots of good things, and only one bad thing about CarMax, and that was from another dealer trying to sell me a car. (Does that count? :L)

Hey neighbor,

Sent you a pm. This coupe sounds nice...but then I'm partial to black vettes.

Best of luck and welcome to the friendliest corvette forum around!

Lots of very nice people here..
