National Corvette Homecoming Moving

Gene Birk

For 23 years, Corvette owners have driven their cars back to their place of origin to celebrate their birth. For at least the next five years, the Corvettes will call WKU's Ag Expo Center home.

Tuesday, Corvette Homecoming organizer, Joe Pruitt, said the move "is a win-win situation for both parties because the people who come through the gates at Western know what the university stands for and what the corvette stands for, and putting those two identities together we hope will grow this show back to national prominence."

Pruitt says Western's Ag Expo Center will host the 24th annual National Corvette Homecoming the second week of August, 2005.

[font=times new roman, new century schoolbook,palatino][size=+0]The 2005 Corvette Homecoming has moved to Western Kentucky’s exposition center, where it will remain for at least the next five years. The next homecoming is scheduled for Aug. 12-14.

The second week in August will be the dates for the homecomings for the next five years as well, according to Joe Pruitt, show coordinator for the Corvette Homecoming.

“That’s a very important thing because people know when and where it’s going to be for a long time,” he said.

The homecoming staff is working in cooperation with Western to keep the venue, which will be advantageous because vendors and food will be inside, away from any severe weather.

“If summers are like what they’ve been lately, being rainy, it won’t affect us that much,” Pruitt said. “Plus, we have 700 acres to grow, so we can expand at will out there.”

As an added bonus, the second weekend of August is the original official Corvette Homecoming weekend; that’s the weekend the original event was held 23 years ago. “There are a lot of things added to the show that are new,” Pruitt said. “We just want people to know it’ll be at the same place at the same time for a long time.”
