No Cruise Control

Hey all,
I am having a couple of problems I am just starting to run down. The cruise control on my 95 does not work. The previous owner stated it has not worked for a while. Also the A/C vents are not working, and all air is coming out the heater and defrost vents. I checked for errors codes on the HVAC system, there were not. I am starting to suspect the two problems are related. In the HVAC dianostic seciton of the service manual, the first question they ask, is whether the cruise control is working. Anyone ever ran across this type of problem?

Hello rich95!
I'm not having any problems with the a/c, but I can't get my cruise control to work either. So I am curious to read any of the responses.

I have replaced most of the vacuum line under the hood that connects with the cruise control diaphram, but I haven't went any further with it. Not too much time on my hands!

But I do have time to go to the track tonight! Hope to start a thread with good news and low e.t.'s!

All the VAC lines under the hood... those systems BOTH need vac to work!

Cruise control inoperative:
check.....
1. blown fuse
2. short or open in the cruise control circuit
3. faulty brake or clutch switch
4. leaking vacuum circuit
5. faulty cruise control switch
6. faulty stepper motor
7. faulty transducer
8. faulty speed sensor
9. faulty cruise control module

When I bought mine a couple of months ago I was told the same thing.
I did a lot of reading on this site and got some great clues !
Mine ended up being the vacuum check valve T.
It was totally rotted and I barely got it out as a recognizable part.
I think the heat made the plastic brittle.
Dropped what was left on the Chevy dealer part counter. Did say a word and the guy went out back and got a new one !
He told me this part is used on every GM vehicle that has AC & Cruise so it is a common problem.

Oh ya,
It is located under the right (passenger) side under the plastic cover thingy.
Just pop the trim cover off and there it is.

I think I had read it is there so that when you get off the gas and the vacuum drops the valve closes.
If it wasn't there your AC vents would be constantly changing on you.

Hope this helps someone out there.

It is located under the right (passenger) side under the plastic cover thingy.
Just pop the trim cover off and there it is.

Sorry about that,

It is on the passenger side of the ENGINE .
There is a large black plastic cover that goes along the valve cover over the intake manifold to hide the fuel rails/injectors.

Sorry, I don't have a better definition of what the part is called?
Not at all hard to see !

The check valve goes right into the manifold. Just follow the black vacuum lines.

There is a vacuum reserve tank forward of the left front wheel. It is round in shape . Check to see if the line is connected. Its to the left of the airpump.

So that is what that thing is !
Never had a clue on this one before.
I didn't really try hard to follow it around but thanks for letting me in on this one :Twist

I had the same problem with my cruise control. I fixed it by replacing the 3 prong vacuum check value under the passenger side fuel rail cover.

And that check valve is directional! It 'saves' the vacuum under full throttle, low vacuum conditions.

You guys and gals on the CAC are for lack of a better word AWSOME!!!! Corvette-Pilot and Rabbit, you were right on time. I took off that fuel rail cover and there it was. The vacum check valve T broken and hardly recognizable!. Thanks to eveyone who helped point me in the right direction. I hope that I can help out someone on the CAC the way you guys have helped me.

I think this was the first piece of info I received from these guys that helped me out too.
Great place to find out nearly anything.
You have to figure that someone out here has seen something that you need to know.
