no heat..!!!!

anybody know what would cause a 88" to blow no heat after i changed/fixed the #1. thermostat
#2. flush and refilled the cooling system
#3. checked the heater core..no leaks/flow is
good
#4. checked all the conections, everything is
secure.

i dont get. no heat. just blows...air.

The heater door isn't moving!

Internal of the heater box there is a Temp Valve DOOR that moves depending on the temp you set...

Do you have the automatic or the manual system?

Vig!

i have electronic air. i removed the dash pad and vents above my radio. i set the temp from 16*c to 32*c and watched the door that is deep inside the dash move from the down postion to the up position. i am so confused.
where is this temp valve door? is that another word for the water shut off valve?...wich i have been looking for since the begining of all this trouble.

The 88 has no water valve!

The heater core is ALWAYS HOT the air valve mix actuator motor ( electric ) is what controls the position of the door.

The motor is located under the pass side of the dash behind the loaf on the AIR BOX.. the easiest way to see it is by poping the dash top.

When you start the car ..does the EXT TEMP light blink for 60 seconds?

That is your "Check Engine" light for the AC system.

There is a way to "POKE" at the codes.

Answer these questions first.

Electronic A/C 88 error codes ( Coupe )

Press & hold down the REAR DEFROST then press & release the blower manual fan UP button.

Now a number from 1-9 will show up ( with a minus sign ) telling you what mode your in.

1=program number
2= In car temp sender ( thermistor )
3=Ambient correction
4=Fan blower number
5=Outside temp sender ( thermistor #2)
6=Feedback pot position
( what is on the door to sence position of the door )
7=Calculated door position
8= system faults ( YOU WANNA BE HERE!)
9= Software version number

To scroll up hit the warmer button
To scroll down hit the colder button.

In MODE 8 you will get an error number

Give me that number!

to get out..of this test mode turn the key off!

vig,
thanks for posting that info.
i tried it EXACTLY the way u told me too. all i got was 00. i dont think i did it wrong. im thinking possibly there is a problem with my ac/heater control panel..[the thing under the radio with the butons}. it wouldnt even go from 16*c to 32*c this morning so somethin is wrong. i even tried my code scanner ...nothin came up but 12"s...

anyway thanks again. looks like im headed to gm for some answers.. . ya...:(

The code scanner will not talk to the AC

The ONLY thing you will talk to is the ECM.. the A/C computer is stand alone.

So when the car is running.. are both the heater core hoses the same temp ( both HOT)

No blinking on the A/C panel?

Fan's running right?

As you change modes AUTO/ Defrost etc.. all the air comes out of the correct vents, correct?

So one of 2 things is happening

1)The heater core is still blocked.. ( not from water flow.. but AIR going thru the core).

2)The Air door MOTOR is moving ( no codes ) but the actual flap is stuck.. or something like that.

Vig!

i know flow is good into the heater core. both hoses get hot. the fans work properly. the air changes vents as it should when i change from defrost to econo.

where would that flap that might be stuck located at?

Do you have Yahoo?

Or AOL IM

vigmann@yahoo
vigmannn@AOL

yes i have a yahoo messanger.

my handle is corvettepinay88.

The air door

Is in the box where the heater core goes into,
rightside of dash behind the "breadbox" Under the vent pipe going to the right hand side of the dash.

The air mix valve

Is the culprit you seek to see if that arm moves the door!

me and vig when we finally get the heat fixed in my vette...EH!!

VIG IS A HOSER EH!!!!!!

Not to seem like a smart-aleck, but I'm guessing that you checked the cooling system for an air bubble. Have had this happen to me before. Just a thought! ZAL81

What is your coolant temp at? What temp thermo did you put in? I had a 160* thermo for the summer, but now that it is in the 50's out my coolant temp wouldn't get about 154* and my heater would blow cold air. I switched back to the 195* for winter and my heater is fine now.

Just my .02

i think its something a bit more than an air bubble. the cooling system was properly flushed then refilled with a new thermostat. Vig says its the door that controls the output of heat. so im gonna try to stuff my fat butt down under the dash and find the culprit.

im hoping i dont get stuck under there and die...:L

So.. a good point

What temp does the engine run at?
