Out yesterday with my 5yr old cruising around and a guy pulls up next to us in a C5 ZO6 looks over we both wave and he looks the other way-I'm getting used to it seems about 1 in every 5 C5 drivers waves.I love my daughter asking me why that man in the corvette would not wave back to us.

That is pretty arrogant. Guess he thought you weren't on his level? There are the jerks out there but I just :L at them.

The Vette Wave

Tell your daughter it is not the Vette's fault that it did not wave back. The drivers synapses were not all firing :L (like spark plug wires).

On his mind he drives an expensive automobile, ignorance toward legacy interrupts the self ability to learn about the wave.

On your mind, you drive a CORVETTE and, you understand the "wave" history and brotherhood among ourselves.

I find that a lot with C5 drivers (lack of wave), on the C6, they are doing great.

i get about 50% of waves back from c5 drivers. i am 100% from C4 and older vettes though.

Maybe someone should move this to the C5 forums and we could ask them directly? Problem is, the forum participants probably DO wave.

Same here, waved to two C5's last week, one waved back, maybe the other didn't see the wave!

Hi wannavette,
great that you're spending time with your little lady.
Enjoy...they grow up very fast!

I'm not sure the "wave" issue is specifically a C5 thing.

I've been ignored by every generation.
C5s may stand out because you may see more of them than the other gens.

Here in south Florida, vettes are a dime a dozen (especially C5s).
Sadly, waves are not as prevalent

I quit initiating waves months ago.
I got tired of either getting ignored, or getting quizzical looks.

When I find myself next to another vette, I'll look over at the driver.
If they look over and wave, I will return the wave.

If they do not, I'll just keep on truckin".

Keep enjoying time with your daugther.
That my friend, you will never regret.

Here you go...I'll break my own rule for you......
Here's a wave from a C5 owner!:w

Best regards to you,

Pedro

It would be interesting to see if the No Wave thing is age related. I would be willing to bet that most of the vette pilots under say 30-35 years of age probably don't wave. Maybe they haven't quite figured it out yet. And if it is a female under age 30 you may get the single finger wave back:W. I have noticed that most of the older vette pilots will wave back. Has anyone else observed this?

This is just one guy's thoughts:

The C5 is a car that is fairly comfortable and civilized. The earlier generations required that you want a Corvette in particular and were willing to live with the issues that come with Corvette ownership. The C5 may attract people who want a fast and beautiful car, but who do not fall into the category of being willing to give up some comfort just to own a Corvette, as that compromise is less necessary.

It means that not all C5 owners are Corvette people. Not all new owners are educated about the wave. However, lots of us C5 owners ARE Corvette guys. I always wave at any Corvette that I see. Not all of us C5 owners are arrogant or uneducated- just some.

It happens in C3's too. A couple of weeks ago I was at an intersection waiting for
someone to give me a break and let me out, when I see this silver (mine's silver as well) C3 coming and I'm thinking "here's my break."
Well, just as I was putting my hand up to wave (he was about 60-80 yards away), he looks to the left so he doesn't have to wave, or let me out.
Last summer another silver C3 wouldn't let me into the flow of traffic......I almost gave him the number 1, and still regret that I didn't.

Well said....the later generation vettes especially C5s are very comfortable touring cars. The C6s are even more refined.
These vettes allow for a much larger, wider, (read older) audience that will view them as driver cars.
With earlier gens including the C1-C3s, usually the person driving was an enthusiast to some degree.
You could pretty much count on a wave back.

These days, a lot of people driving vettes are just that "people driving vettes".. not "vette people".
There is a definite difference.

As a c-5 owner i wave with both hands.Sorry for the snots that just don't get it.Someone who doesn't take the time to wave at a kid is a double snot.

Well they do look like a RX7, maybe they feel "rotoristic"

I'm always surprised how many responses this topic generates whenever it's posted. With all the cool things about this car, why let a non-waver ruin your day? Geez, just let it go already.

With the exception of Z06 C5 owners, which 99% of the time wave back because people who buy Z06's are REAL Corvette people, I've stopped waving at all other C5 Vettes. Unless they wave FIRST. That's because I've found that C5 wave returns are in the order of 10% out here in Socal. Too many clueless snots who drive them out here.

I once had a chance to drive down Pacific Coast Highway alongside an '04 C5 for 10 miles. We were side by side all the way. I tried to wave at its driver and he just gave me the conceited look, then took off hard at every signal. He did this over and over for 10 miles. Even my wife said, "What a conceited a-hole!"

On the contrary, every Z06 C5 owner I've encountered stuck out their arm to wave and even smiled. Now that's enthusiasm for their cars. :upthumbs
