Yes, while trying to align the hood and headlights, found this - (chalk it up to the world of Bubba)

This is what the passenger side looks like - in perfect shape and with all its parts.

Shot of my driver's side -

notice broken tab AND the black goo up top.. top center tab is also broken off.(actually doesnt look broken, looks to be missing, right?)

and yes, Bubba's Goo is not holding anymore

( I have lifted the headlight painted cover 2 inches in this shot )

Looks like the possom took a ride up the front of the car. If you take the painted cover off, there is a plastic "spacer" that screws to the mechanism that the cover screws to; it should be cheap enough. I can look in my parts CD tomorrow and get you a part number if you want, but itts off to work I go :L

Thanks - I have a parts CD around here somewhere but I've never used it - Always A FIRST!

if you run across it, lemme know!

yes, critter left me a present up in there didn't he?!?!

Hey Rain,

I just went through my headlamp disassembly and alignment yesterday. The Chevy dealer didn't have any exploded views of the adjusters that hold the lamp assembly. If you get the part numbers, they would be appreciated.

If you can't get the adjusters to move, the headlamps will have to be pulled off to get to the adjusters(3 bolts on the lamp housing). The brackets that hold the lamp are on ball sockets and the balls pull out of the socket with a little bit of force. The top pivot point is held with a nut on the shaft(10MM I think).
The adjusters are held on with 2 screws that can be removed and the adjusters come off.
Once you get the adjuster off the assembly can be pried apart(there's a little plastic snap on the flat round half circle that clips it together) by sliding a small screwdriver between the 2 flat tabs where the screws hold it to the bracket.
A little PB blaster on the threaded shaft will loosen the plastic gear so you can unscrew it and clean it up.

Hi Rain -

I do not have part numbers, but the headlamp door is very easily removed and replaced -

Here are the instructions from the GM manual:

1 - open hood
2 - remove headlamp actuator motor/knob cover
3 - remove headlamp opening door rear retaining screws (2) (shown facing the rear of the car)
4 - disconnect the headlamp wiring harness electrical connector from the forward lamp wiring harness
5 - apply tape to the area around the headlamp opening to protect the paint from damage
6 - rotate the headlamp motor/actuator manual control knob counterclockwise to raise the headlamp
7 - remove the headlamp bezel
8 - remove the headlamp opening door side retaining screws (2)
9 - remove the headlamp opening door from the headlamp

Best Regards -

Thanks guys - Will Digest this in the morning

decided to flush mount my tail lights for the heck of it instead of fooling with the headlamps this evening..
not bad for a short list of screws, spacers, and weatherstripping from Lowes -
Think they need to tilt a hair up to hide the upper edges of the lamps a bit more.. but Im working on that.

Keep yall posted on what I learn with the headlights

Once you get the Painted cover off, there are 4 torx screws that hold on the top plate that has the broken tabs. Keep track of where the screws are located on the plate before you take it off.(It slides back and forth a little on slots) It will make it easier to align the new one. The white plastic knobs will raise and lower to fit the cover flush with the hood.

Excellent - I am sure I would have been more goal oriented by that time and not thought to mark the existing positions..
Thanks!

(also like the idea of taping off surround to prevent paint damage - since the bumper was just painted last week)

Just got an email from a fellow Vette owner who says he has the part I need to replace..
things are looking up - but of course Im headed to New Orleans at 1 and wont be back till Sunday ..

gigs on Bourbon Street... gotta work!

I've owned my vette since Sept of 2003. I just got my headlights going up and down on their own on Tuesday! Gotta love mechanical movement operated by vacuum!

I must say, yours were more bubba than mine!

HAHA

even had a Mustang GT try to race me while I was leading the caravan at 80 mph..
crazy people!
haha

The guy in the GT must have been having some kind of a dream. Sorry I didn't get to meet ya this trip Rain, you had already headed for Nashville when I got on the scene. Hope to seeya at Cruisefest ;) That Dwayne realy puts on a great tour doesn't he!!!!

Hey Dale -
Yea, the VP of our club is a HUGE Hard Rock Cafe fan and its been 2 years since I spent anytime in DnTown Nashvegas.. so we made a quick trip down after that squal blew thru town Friday afternoon/evening.

We were back about 10:30 or so - had an EARLY morning with Dwayne - and yes, he puts on a hell of a tour!

Saturday was just so cold that we didn't get a chance to visit with many folks and that evening we were just exhausted after the Bash dinner and auction.. (wore my hair down - should have seem the looks on peoples' faces! haha)_

Can't make the Cruisefest due to gigs and responsibilities with our magazine.. at least not this year -
sigh

Amazing how time flies when you have a list of things to do -
Hope to get this fixed soon.. Still have not heard back from the guy who wrote, said he had the part, but had no idea what it was worth.
