Last Saturday I was put in my place by a group of kids at a local cruise-in show in Canton, Ga. There were about 25 assorted vettes sprinkled in the mix of 400 cars..I had the only red one! The open clam shell attracted a fair amount of attention including the NOPI Gang.

Apparently I need a boom bass stereo, neon underlights, NOS and graphics to count as a real car. Oh yeah 'that' model vette looks stupid.
I thought 'touche' for the silent critique I always offer when the modded sushi-roll farts on down the road...

Follow your herd, little girls and boys. Leave Classic American torque alone for us to enjoy.

Disregard the ignorance of youth. They are not old enough to understand yet that the Fast & the Furious was a crappy movie and not a documentary.

And..........

Your point is? I see NO comparison between the two styles of cars. It never ceases to amaze me that those with the smaller less powerful will always try to be the giant killer, while those that own a Corvette seem to be content. Could it be because we bought and drive what we wanted and not because we're still wannabe's?
More power to those that have achieved their sought after rides, be it a Corvette, Porche, Mercede's, Rolls Royce or a Honda Civic, with the fart cans.

They follow their herd and we followed ours. I like the "sushi roll farts" line. Thing I cannot handle is the little knats weaving in and outta traffic on roads like GA 400 or even GA 92. They are a hazzard like a bridge that is out. Little crapper can engines flailing away under the aluminum hoods, neon lights, dayglo colors, 4 door sedans...front wheels wiggling this way and that as they shoot away from the stoplight. They are like a locust plague.

The point, Rowdy1, is that car people march to their own drumbeats. One is no better than the other, just preferred. My choice, like UB says, is based on a different beat than the import gang.

I owned 4 different Nissan Zs and loved them, but Corvettes have an unspoken, confident heritage that those folks won't ever feel. And they're vocal about their preferences as we are. I think it's all very entertaining.

NO WAY. . .they can't begin to understand "what your place is. . ." the little worms!

I don't knock their choice, if it's something other than a Corvette, more power to them. My point is, it just seems to me that it's always the "others" that are trying to beat or compare to the Corvette. I don't see my 62 as better than anyone else's choice, it's a matter of likes and dislikes.
I just happen to like this and what it does for me:upthumbs

The thing with me is, If I don't like a car at a car show, I just don't go over and look at it. I don't stand there and knock the car... If something is funny to me, I can keep it to myself, or keep it to a private conversation away from the owner.

If someone doesn't like my car, fine... I don't care, but I also don't really care to hear about it.

The problem with Ricers is that they are looking for acceptance. The way they accomlpish this is by trying to belittle the established cars in front of their friends in order to make themselves look better. :eyerole

To me, that's a compliment because our Corvette's are the standard by which they're trying to get to.:D

I agree... I also think it has a bit to do with the general nature of (young) people these days.

It really doesn't matter in the end anyway... I don't drive my car for other people... I drive it for me... I am too selfish to worry about the rest of the world's feelings :D

Hey watch it!!!;LOL The only part of The fast and the stupid I liked was at the end with the Charger ;) . The second one was even worse. There are some my age (17 in 5 days)not many. That do know what REAL cars are.

Eh, every generation has their "things". Hell, I can't STAND rap music but if I were a teenager I probably would.

They like what they like, I like what I like. Who cares. Now if one of them would care to take their fart can powered ricer to the track and put the titles up, we can talk. :D

Now trust me, I'm NOT siding with the ricer crowd, but before you offer to race for pink slips, be aware that there's more than one four cylinder out there on the street that'll run in the 9 second bracket and you can't tell by looking at them.

I couldn't stop laughing when I read that! ;LOL ;LOL

Youth..... I remember when I put airshocks on my first camaro and jacked that ass-end so high in the air.... you know, the stink bug look? I thought it was so cool. Didn't take long for me to realize that the slammed look is best and also performs better. Now, I cherish those rare, pristine cars that have been untouched....

Age changes you - no doubt. I admire anyone that takes pride in their vehicles even if I don't agree with their artistic taste. :eek

HOWEVER - purposely going out of their way to denigrate another car enthusiast is down right intolerable in my book!:mad

as a former mopar fan and as the former owner of a 68 and 69 charger I agree.....that was one sweet car...:)

Its about WORK, EFFORT, MONEY and RESPECT.

The ricer crowd puts all that work, money and effort into some half baked imitation of a sports car that was brought to the market first and foremost as an economy car.

They **** away all that effort and money to make somthing that looks for the most part just plain silly, and even if it has the performance of a later model Corvette, it might have evn cost more and is absolutely worthless a few years down the road if in fact its still on the road.

Last is Respect. I could respect the work put into any car as some ones hobby and dream, except when they act like ignorant you know whats when they get behind the wheel. Yeah, I know a Vette driver can do the same, but i dont see it.

I should live so long as to see 2 guys in a 62 Corvette weaving in and out of traffic with a stereo blasting loud enough to rattle the chrome bumpers as the neon under the car and in the wheel wells blinks to the deep bass as the mega-watt amp drains the electrical system with every thump.

Man...........

Good thing you've never seen me coming home from a cruise night eh? Not that I would, but my stereo is broken:L ;LOL ;LOL

There is hope for the future. We do have a few young Vette guys (and girls) here. And it just so happens that Saturday afternoon my doorbell rang. I walked down the hall and could see the unmistakable f-body profile out the window. Well it was an f-body - it was a 1980 Formula. Here's the kicker - the guy driving it is not quite 20 and he came by to show it off to me. Oh yeah, he just sold his 72 Dart Swinger, and last year sold his 71 Scamp. His daily driver? Oh yeah, that's a 68 Polara. He and others like him may be a minority, but he speaks their language at the cruises and is our best at converting the lost sheep.

I don't care what type of car sombody likes. We should welcome all car nuts. Only by force of numbers can we keep the enemy at bay. This enemy is the crowd that will not be satisfied untill we are forced to drive some type of electric golf cart.
