I thought I would ask,.....What are your opinions on putting NOS on a 24,000 mi LT4...Can it be removed?,..is it safe?,....is it worth it??

thanks,..

read this month issue of Vette magazine..it's got a special article on NOS installed on a LT 4 believe it or not...hP went from 403 I think to 536HP !! I think those # are right..good luck..

If you do this, use a controler so you can dial on when and how much, so you do not break traction and save the engine some wear. Really do not go over 50-75 HP gain and your stock LT4 will thank you.:-)

I have been using nos for a year 75 shot no big deal but the barry grant system will give you the power you want.

Nos?

Do you have a link so I can look at his system? Is it a wet or dry system?
Thanks LAB

this is the system I use and it has served me well.you will need to get a filter inline and a bottle warmer and just go.
Yes this is a wet system and the nozzles cant get turned around like the nos
system when you install it you just change 2 jets to what you want
75 shot is 1 second in quarter mile and 125 shot is 1 1/4 and 150 is almost 2 seconds in the quarter I would not go above 125 shot the engine can take it but your rearend cant so dont throw the switch until you are moving about 40 feet off the line, once you hit it you will know what I mean just dont get greedy.

I went to the link, and they say I need to upgrade my ignition system? My 96 has the LT4 engine option that has a higher voltage coil and larger fuel injectors than the LT1. Did you stay with your stock ignition?I emailed their tech support but some of these tuners never email back.
Thanks

Ok are you ready
1. I have an msd 6al ignition box
2. msd spark retard
3.aremotive adjustable regulator set at 40 psi
4 B8EFS SPARK PLUGS NGK
5. LT4 KNOCK MODUEL WHICH YOU HAVE
6.I USE NOS RACING FORMULIA ADDITIVE
7.I HAVE A 160 DEG STAT .
8.POWERTECH TUNER I ONLY USE THE 160 DEG THERMSTAT SETTING
9.TRANS FIRMNESS.
10TOP SPEED
11.REVLIMITER SET TO 6500 YOU DONT WANT THE FACTORY LIMITER IT RESTRICTS THE FUEL AND THAT IS BAD WITH NOS I USE THE REVLIMITER ON THE MSD 6AL SET AT 6200 OR LESS.
12.I CHANGE MY OIL AND FILTER BEFOR I GO TO THE TRACK 4 1/2 QTS MOBIL 1 15 -50
AND A CAN OF JUSTICE BROTHERS ENGINE TUNE UP K&N 2001 OIL FILTER.CHEEP INSURANCE.
13.WORLBORO 20000169 FUEL PUMP IT BOLTS RIGHT IN THE FUEL TANK.THEY JUST CAME OUT WITH IT ON 4-15-04 CHEAP 105.00 GOOD TO 700 OR SO HP.
14.BARRY GRANT BACK UP FUEL PUMP RUN IN LINE.
15.1.5 CHEVY ROLLER ROCKERS YOU DONT KNEED YOU HAVE THEM ON YOUR ENGINE.
16.THE CLAW AIR INDUCTOIN.
17.555 NITO DRAG RADIALS 315-35-17.
YOU DONT NEED ALL THIS JUNK BUT I HAVE THE MONEY SO I LIKE TO PUT LOTS OF BACK UP SYSTEMS ON THE CAR ,YOU JUST NEED
GOOD WIRES SO THE ENGINE DOES NOT MISS OR BACK FIRE AND YOU ARE GOOD TO GO WITH A 75 SHOT NO MORE THAN THAT
IF YOU ADD IGNITION MSD 6AL AND A 3 STAGE RETARD AND FUEL ADDATIVE
SO THE ENGINE DOES NOT PING YOU CAN GO TO 125 SHOT.

Wow.
My LT4 factory rev limiter is set at 6300 RPM.
I have a Breathless Performance Adjustble fuel pressure regulator set at 47 psi (factory setting)
75 HP is OK as I have a limited budget and do not want to push the stock engine too hard.
Justice Bro's Engine tune? Why? (never used NOS)
Do I have to replace the GM fuel pump? If so where did you get your Worlboro pump?
I have the 160 stat and Hyper-Tech Power Programmer (they said if I do this they will sell me a new part to add to the programmer to reprogram the ecu. Does the NOS formula raise the octaine of the fuel?
Thanks Again for the information.

DO NOT USE ANYTHING THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR FACTORY SETTINGS.
HYPERTECH IS OK FOR TRANS FIRMNESS AND 160 STAT SETTING BUT INCRESSE YOUR
REVLIMITER TO THE MAX.MAKE SURE YOU TUNE YOUR ENGINE TO ITS BEST BY MAKING 1 RUN AND IT SHOULD BE IN THE LOW 13'S
IF THE TRANS SHIFTS OK THEN TAKE THE TIRES DOWN TO 22 LBS AND HIT THE NOS JUST AFTER FIRST GEAR SHIFTS AND ITS A GO.
IF THE TRANS DOES NOT SHIFT THEN REPLACE THE MAP SENSOR.
THE NOS ADDATIVE ADDS 7 POINTS TO THE OCTAIN
MAKE SURE YOU FILL YOUIR TANK THE NOS NEEDS A LOT OF FUEL
IT ADDS 37% O2 TO THE ENGINE AT 127 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.
WHEN YOU KICK ON THE NOS THEIR WILL BE A LAG THAT'S OK
A PURGE WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT BUT YOU DONT NEED IT RIGHT NOW SAVE FOR IT.
JUST TO BE SURE I WOULD CHANGE MY PLUGS TO B8 OR 9 EFS NGK CHEEP INSURANCE.
ANY OTHER ? LET ME KNOW?

Thanks, Again.
What about the stock fuel pump, can I use the stock unit? My trans is manual ZF 6 speed. I changed the plugs on both of my LT engines, the LT4 uses Bosch Platinum +4 #4458. I hated the GM LT1 and LT4 plugs as the disc on the ground will burn off and your gap will increase big time.I really felt a difference after I installed the new Bosch design (several aircraft engines use this design, no ground wrapped around the electrode where you check the gap) and no disc (platinum platt) to fall or burn off. My LT4 had 28,000 miles on the stock plugs and three out of eight had the disc missing and the gap way too wide. 100,000 miles on stock plugs, GM is dreaming. I had a set of NGk in the TA LT1, they were OK too.

Fuel pump is fine.
use the plugs I recomended at 35 th's gap or the engine will ping.
no Platinum!!
change the plugs back when you are not using the nos.
You can try a test and see if the engine stays together with any of the other plugs and let me know,I never tried any other plugs.
except tr6ngk , I ran a little to high a pressure in the bottle 1200 psi
and burned off the electrode.
your bottle temp must remain at 85 to 90 degrees when you hit the switch.
Until you know what you are doing I would recomend not hitting the switch until 2nd gear.

I have been Drag racing for many years, just never used NOS as a power adder. I must sound like a rookie, just do not want to hurt the LT4. I was looking at a controller box that lets you slowely, inject the NOS. I was curious about your NOT wanting me to use Platinum +4 Bosh plug? Have you looked at how it is made?

A plat plug holds to much heat and will cause the engine to ping.
a steel electorde is better with nos.
it disapates the heat faster.
No you don't sound like a beginner,
nos is very demanding and you have to pay attention to the details.
the lt4 is a very good engine but the pistons and the rods aren't the greatest.
A window or controller is a good way to control everything just incase something goes wrong. With 37% o2 going into the engine always look for ways to cut down the potential for mistakes.
Also you realy don't need spark plugs at all to fire the engine just add a little heat and it will fire with nos.
Your just looking for ways to cut down the chance for heat to linger in the engine.
;)
I have made mistakes!! with the juice the dumbest you can think of
and it was not lack of knowledge ,you get tired and ****ed off at the races and hit the throttle and forget the bottle is open and hit the key and boom intake gone.HA HA now;LOL but not at the time.
