Well as some of you know, I am new to owning a corvette. I did some searching today on the #s and I found on the block the #s V0716ZDD which means that the engine was made in Flint Mich. and was built on 7/16 and it belongs to a 1981 L81. I have a 1980. My dash tach says L82 on it. I am guessing that this motor does not belong with this car.
My question is...should I keep this motor with this car or would it make a difference if I put another motor in this car?

If it runs strong and you are enjoying the car? Why bother it still wont be matching #S;shrug

Runs good but, it is a vette motor in it now. I was thinking of building a motor to put in it that has more horsepower. The one I build may not be a vette motor. Would it make that much difference since the motor is not matching anyway or should I keep the vette motor in the car? Or does it really matter...value wise...

I had a 70 coupe, when I was looking to buy it I informed the seller that the numbers did not match, he said, "Take it for a ride, you won't care about matching numbers", he was right, the motor turned out to be a 400 SB and it ran amazing, wish I still had it.............

Are you sure it says ZDD and not ZBD? ZBD was used in 80. There should be another number stamped on the stamp pad. Check it to see if the last 5 or 6 digits match the end of your VIN. If on match then.....

The engine is not original and any thing else you put in it will still not be original. So do what make you happy, it is your car so enjoy :D

tom...

Also,

The casting number of the block will help you accurately narrow-down the engine.

An L81 looks like this on the side of the block:

y1ppsvlS95gX84nmZ6GJ7GHckOIIDGX4L23j3SzQeV2urLinmYppQoys8ApTl7hJCENIQpChyl_CoU

The block casting number is the following:

y1ppsvlS95gX86t_HKeAP7CH0lE0H82Lo2Vf4ZXWG4W9wtxTh6VFkV_MII-KKVBaE0oqbCj6tUb6Lk

Also, the L81 block has the last 3 casting "207" numbers embossed in several places.

Its ZDD, The other #s dont match either, Oh well, Its a really great car anyway and now I can look forward to building a motor that I want to put in it. Thanks for all your inputs.
