Nylon buttons

I decided to take my distributor apart today and clean things up. It's a HEI so theres not to much to do but I did notice the nylon buttons( I dont know the correct term) which are under the centrifical weights were loose and missing two of the legs that hold them in. I'm not sure of their purpose but maybe as a anti rattle device.
Any way the parts store didn't have any of them so I just glued them in place with a little JB weld.

Anyone know what these do??? and do you really need them.

Ok guys someone must know what these things do !!!!

I know what you're describing. Some of the HEI have them ... some do not. AFAIK, purpose is to provide a slick surface for the weights to glide on. Never bought any ... but if I had to ... I'd check with my GM dealer.

---EDIT--- btw, HEI that do not have them are designed a bit differently ... have a small raised bump in metal that weight glides on. Also, most recent version of HEI (GM pn 1104067) that comes on ZZ4 etc does not have the plastic buttons ... it has the raised metal bumps.

GM dealer won't have those bushings,if it was still available you'd have to buy a main shaft. I usually refer people to our local speed shop for those small bushings.
