So it isn't a Callaway - but tonite, my older daughter sat down to begin her very first model car :cool

This past weekend, my family and I, all travelled to Chryslers @ Carlisle (to get an early fix) and while there, we took the kids, to the Kids at Carlisle building that has all sorts of activities for young folks :cool

It was there in the building, my daughter saw other kids had entered model cars in the model buiding contest and asked where she could buy a car to put into the show.

I explained to her that they were not really bought. Rather, they were built by the kids. She asked then, if she could build one herself - I said SURE! :cool

So while it is not a Callaway, it is a Corvette and is giving her some valuable lessons in following printed directions (which she reads, then finds the corresponding part #'s) as she puts the pieces together.

In time, maybe even for her next model if she is still interested at the end of all this, she can have one of the Speedster Callaway models I have (in boxes) :cool

Attached, are some pics of the progress tonite - we "tinted the windows" and I explained to her about details such as black paint around the window frames, to look like weather stripping, etc.

I just thought I would share this with everyone, as I am one proud father :cool

coool :upthumbs

I was not aware your daughter was already that big,

already looking forward in doing the same with my daughter when she grows up. "my girl becomes 2 this August"

I had a small collection of scale 1:43 metal matchbox Corvettes which my kid confiscated , no barbie dolls for her , yet

daughters are the best !! :D

I remember my first model I built by myself. It was one of those metal Testors models of a 1996 Dodge Viper GTS. Everything was going great... until I snapped the headers off the left side of the engine while putting it in the car's body. :L

My really really first one, was a model of the Corvette Stingray III concept though, but my dad mainly built that. I just served to unfortunately break off a large majority of the delicate plastic pieces that were glued on.

Good for her! Some of my favorite memories are of building model cars and military planes. In fact, my dad still has a number of the planes I built in a display case in his study. :upthumbs

Enjoy!

Very cool, sure brings back memories. So, can we expect to see it sitting on the dash of a certain red car on the 22nd;). Looks as though she's outgrown her other car, guess that will get passed down.

Thank you all, for the positive comments - I shared them w/ my daughter and she thinks it is cool that others have built models as kids also :cool

Here are some more pics of her work - Aside from the hints and suggestions for putting the model together, it is all her work :cool

She wanted the back to be black for the lic. plate too, just like on the real car vs. the cheezy lic. plate they included :ugh

Thanks again!

Which means she has excellent taste! :) Actually, I think hers looks better! I better Zaino mine soon. :L

Sounds as though we have a future female RED Corvette owner among us...

Welcome to the :CAC ! Your model looks great - you did an outstanding job, and I love all the detail you added. I hope you have lots of fun building them, and we'll look forward to one day hearing that you finally got your first 1:1 scale model.

BTW - Chris,
Thanks for sharing this special project and photos with us. :cool

I 2nd that ! Mine isnt in model builder range yet (She'll be 2 in September), but once she is, i'll see if she wants to build some too.

Chris: Thanks for sharing this project with us. Looks like we have a great model builder, later-Vette-owner-grooming, in front of us. I like her attention to detail and making it her own. Looks way :cool from here ! Maybe a display case for her first model, Dad ? ;)

That's totally awesome job your daughter did!

While I was growing up my dad wasn't into cars so I learned the names of the different parts of cars from the building instructions of the model cars that I put together.

Having a dad like you, your daughter may end up being the next Danica Patrick. :upthumbs

And I've seen her drive - I never knew one of those little 9V cars would cut a turn like that:D.

This is too cool...my kidz have zero interest in cars. You little lady is very talented...

Thank you again EVERYONE for the kinds words - I have shown them to my daughter who appreciates them too :cool

It was her idea to "detail" the car, as she wanted to color the exhaust tips silver - then she said, "what about the rest of the exhaust?" She then did that however, I did hint that the oil pan was silver too ;)

She painted the glass black on the inside, to give it the "tinted" look and also knew the wipers were black along w/ the rest of the cowl :upthumbs

I hope her enthusiasum remains steady over time - if anything, a good understanding of cars might make her more savvy w/ her checkbook when it comes to automobiles, and their related costs :cool

Thanks again! :m

Hey guys - thought I would share -

My daughter won her class at the Corvettes @ Carlisle show, entering her model in the Kids at Carlisle event :cool

She was so pleased and cannot wait to build another model (although she wants to build a police car next :eek )
