o2 sensor tool

I was wondering if anyone would happen to have a part number for the O2 sensor socket (craftsman if it is made). I was at Sears yesterday and asked if they had one. The person seemed kind of confussed and showed me to the flare wrenches. I know a 7/8 short wrench might do the trick, but I would perfer to get the socket. Now could I be asking for the wrong thing, don't know...any help would be very much appriciated.

I removed and replaced mine using an open end wrench.....

If you've got local parts shops like Auto Zone, they loan (for free) a kit with the right sockets. Theirs has three different ones; I've only seen the one at Sears (about 2" long, slot in side) and that's not always the one to use. The others are offset so the wrench doesn't attach directly inline with the sensor (and that's what I needed for my Subaru, when I changed the sensor last weekend).

I bought mine through my MATCO tool guy.. wasn't expensive.. probably around 20 bucks I'm not shure if craftsman makes one..

Well they do make one

It's like a cross between a flare wrench & a socket......

imagine a spark plug socket with1/8 of the side shaved off ( to let the wire go through )

It is not a PERFECT fit... ( sloppy)

A flare wrench worked for me....

If the O2 is REALLY stuck in there... use a BIG gorilla wrench to break it loose first... and soak it with PB blaster or other stuff first!

I did this on the bench last weekend when I swapped over my O2's from my good cats to my gutted ones..

They were seized in there good.. I took a small propane torch warmed them up and used a long handled 3/8 drive ratchet with the O2 socket.. they came out after a little bit of work..

I use a flare nut myself. half the time the O2 sensor is jammed up against something to limit access anyways. Also if the plug isn't to big you can use a geared wrench (Speeder?) This will allow racheting action.

What I do 90% of the time (Because I am replacing the thing and I am getting paid by the job) Cut the wire throw my speeder on it bang its off. If its jammed make sure your using a 6 point wrench (Flare) oil up the threads let soak and heat her up with a torch...It'll come out.

I also didn't think Craftsman made one, if they do it's not included any of thier Auto Specialty or Mechanics Tool Sets. All I see in the Craftsman catalog is spark plug sockets.
You may find it in Sears Industrial Catalog, I have one at work I'll see if I can find it in there.
If you're going to be using it on your 94 with the cats in the car you'll only be able to get at one of the O2's (pass side I think) with an o2 socket anyway,I figured this out when I put headers in this past summer. You have to use an open end wrench on one side regardless so IMO you're better off saving your $.
I also like buying only Craftsman tools but I have an O2 socket I picked up at a local parts store for under $10 .

I finally removed my O2 Sensors and what a chore. I purchased the socket, I only had enough access to remove one sensor. The right forword (of the cat) O2 came out with an offset 7/8 ratching wrench, I was not able to get on it with any other wrench on it, also recieved a black eye when I broke the sensor free. On the third O2 sensor (right rear of the cat) I had to use a large vise grip to remove, the hardest part was removing the #$@@%! connector. I hope this helps someone out, because it took me 2 days and 2 trips to the store to get this done. If are able to easily remove the cat on the right side, I recommend going that way, mine was not coming out all that easily.

So it was the driver's side that came out with the O2 socket ?
Sorry, I knew it was one of the 2 (as I mentioned in post above) just couldn't remember which.
I told you not to waste your $ on the socket -LOL
Sorry to hear you got a black eye over it, just tell everybody your wife/girlfriend did it

driverside is easy, on pass side drop the starter. total time to do both droping the starter and putting it back, less than an hour. also this lets you clean and check the starter and electric conections. no busted knuckels, no special wrench. robert

I prefer the kind that looks like a line wrench over the one that looks like a socket with a slit in it. I have found that the socket-type sometimes crushes the signal wire where it comes out of the sensor.
