the other day as i was walking to my car, i noticed the little black ring around where the antenna retract was ajar. i just removed it for the time being and drove on home. when i went to replace it i noticed the antenna was not properly aligned with the opening. this caused it to knock the black ring out of place when it went up. i stuck my finger in there and the whole antenna assembly was loose. i could move it around in the hole. is there a loose bolt or something in there? how can i fix this?

There is a big plastic nut that attaches to that piece you discribed. You need to reach up under the rear fender and tighten it...if that nut is broken, they are still available.

i reached up there and i can see and feel the antenna motor. it definatly is loose, but i cant locate the plastic nut. where is it? top, bottom, front, back? how far up? thanks for the info.

i guess you are talking about that large plastic collar. i turned it and turned it and turned it, but it didnt tighter the antenna one bit. laying on my back, reaching up, i was turning it clockwise. unless its reverse threads, that should be the right way...

Did you have the gromit in from above?...that part you took out...its connected to that...its a clockwise tighten...

If you take the two bolts out of the metal bracket, the antenna should slide out so you can inspect it. Just the wires will remain...I put a connector on the wires so I could remove it in the future if need be.

i see the problem now...the nut it broken. i took another look and see that the screw was just spinning in place, the other side it tightens to is broken. where can i get a new one?

it seems like it will be a pain in the a** to replace. is it easier to access it from inside the rear hatch to replace it?

thanks for your help Jon.

this is apparently an old break, the guy who "fixed" it just put some glue of some sort on the top screw to try and hold it in place... heres a pic of the top screw, you can the the threaded part is broken off.

it wont be as hard to replace as i had originally thought.

is this the piece?

I would give these guys a call http://www.tld-corvette.com I think its where I got mine. If not try corvettecentral.com. Its easy to replace once you get the antenna out. You just need to remove the plastic "C" do-hicky that goes around the mast. Then the old nut slides off. Like I mentioned above, get a trailer hitch connector and cut and solder the wires to the male and female ends of the antenna wires...makes life easier. On your car, its easier to do it from under the car...you may also want to remove the tire and the wheel well to gain better access...good luck
