Question: Oil Change additive question ?

None of the Gen 3/4/5 V8s in Corvettes use "full" roller rockers. Only the trunnion is rolerized. The tips are not. In fact, the only time an production GM engine has used full roller rockers was in 1996 and even then it was only the Lt4.

You are correct, I did not spell it out correctly. Engines now have roller lifters and rockers with roller fulcrums.

Also, going to full or partial roller rockers DOES NOT eliminate the need for EP additives.

If that is true, where are the extreme pressure points that require an EP additive?

Lastly, the statement about "...a bazillion engines on the road in the last 30 years and the only problems were due to lack of proper service..." is inaccurate.

Again maybe a poor choice of words, name one case where a vehicle that received proper service had an engine failure due to the lack of an oil additive. That being said this does not include a recall by GM for 1976-1984 small block V-8 engines that used lifters that were not manufactured with consistence which caused them to stop rotating which then wore the lobe off from the camshaft. Again not the oils fault.


Also I am not against additives it is just everyone waits until there is a problem and then look to them for a cheap way out.

Hay Hib, My 2003 LS1 came using Mobil-1 5W-30 which I have used since it's birth. But now GM has the "Dexos" line of oils, is there any sense in changing from a Mobil-1 product to a General Motors Dexos 5W/30 ? Thank you !

No reason to change to Dexos1 as long as you're happy with Mobil 1.

If it were me, I'd be using a 10W30 rather than 5W30.
