I have had my Corvette for about 10 months. We have put about 1,500 miles since that time. The oil was changed by the dealer when I bought the car (Mobil 1).

Obviously, the mileage does not warrant a change now but what about time? On one hand it doesn't seem right to go 10-12 without a change but on the other, the miles driven does not warrant a change.

any thoughts? (we are going to Thunder Hill next weekend which will be a 6 hour round trip and I want to make sure the engine is happy)

Thanks,

Ted

Your bound to hear all kind of replies....but i change my 91's oil every 3-5 months regardless of the mileage. Hope that helps:)

well its your car and your money. when you pull the dip stick out and check it how dose it look? still clean, or turning black? black i would change it.

You will be OK until you return. Then just check the level and see how dark the oil is. With my Vettes, I usually change once a year unless I go beyond 3-4000 miles. My 87 (also use Mobil-1) is a bit more frequent for changes as it sees a fair amount of autocross and track days.

If you don't plan on driving the car a lot during the year, say under 3000 miles, than changing once a year should be fine. If the car sits during the winter, I would change it just before the driving season starts. If you do let the car sit and you run the motor on occasion, let the oil temps get up to normal (200-230) so that any moisture can burn off.

Oil is cheap motors are not. I change my 87 probably only twice a year. When winter ends, and when summer ends since I usually do not drive the car every day. Unless I look at the dipstick and do not like the way the oil looks.

oil change

All your responses make sense, 3-5 mon., for a non daily driver is good, the only thing I would do different is to change it before it hibernates for the winter. Get all that nasty stuff out of there! Just my 2 cents. Muddywaters
