Oil pressure low.. Danger?

Ok seeings I just changed my Oil Pressure Switch I figured I would chime in. When I first got the car my oil pressure was like 55-60 with engine cold and would come down to around 35-40 warm and at idle in drive it would be about 25-30. About a month after I got it the gauge started reading alot higher like 75 cold and 40 idle park. Now I just changed the PSI switch and it reads much more realistic. I get 55-60 cold and 35-40 hot idle park and 25-30 hot idle drive. It gets as low as 17 psi if I am just coming off an extended hiway run and come down to idle in drive. You should have 10 psi for every 1000 rpm. You being at 10 at hot idle is however in my opiinion a bit low if that is just hot idle after warming up and driving city speed. If that is what it reads after an extended hiway run than I feel it is fine. Just my .02

I went to my auto parts store today to get a new Switch, just in case that was the problem and when i asked for a new Oil Pressure Switch the computer cam up with two options: Either with "lights" or "gauges".. what do they mean?

You want the switch for gauges.

I am just guessing, but if its a "light" guage then I think it would be a idiot light? for cars that do not have a insturment cluster just a speedometer.

Justin

The PSI switch for a light refers to idiot light. Guage PSI switch is for cars with oil psi gauges.

The sending unit and the switch are different things.

You want the sending unit as well, its a big thing that kinda looks like a fuel filter, the switch is smaller.
