changed my oil pressure sending unit now gauge stays at about 20 I used some of that white plumbing tape on the connections could that be the problem?

have you checked the grounds to guage?? you may want to try a mechanical guage for a bit. a regular air pressure guage and some misc pipe fittings will get a good reading. that will give you an idea if the oil pressure is real or getting screwed up in the electronics. if it's the electronics, look for bad grounds. sharks are known to have crappy grounds in the guage cluster. Very possible the tape IS the problem!!!!! NEVER use tape on sending units. good Luck & be careful removing the tape not to get any down the hole.:D

The tape could be obstructing ... I've never had a problem using it & will continue to do so on tapered pipe threads & sending unit plumbing. You might check & see if you got the correct sender. It could be a sender for an idiot light and not for gage ... that'll sure cause a gage error. Or it could be for a gage but is not for your model car and may not be calibrated for your gage ... my first guess would be that you were sold the wrong sender ... that it's wrong and is for an idiot light. BTW, the genuine GM gage sender is the best for your factory gage because it's correctly calibrated for your gage. Same goes for OE water temp gages & senders.
