This problem in on a '68 350 small block.

I have oil seepage from a intake manifold bolt over the #1 cylinder. The oil is actually settling in a cavity on top of the manifold. Ironically enough, I'm also getting fouled plugs in that cylinder as well. I know that I could have ring problems, but I don't think you usually see oil seeping up from a manifold bolt if that were the case. Could I have a bad manifold gasket in this case?

Thanks

When you replace the gasket, use thread sealer on the intake bolts (except the extreme four corner bolts); the others are exposed in the lifter valley, and without thread sealer, hot oil will migrate up the bolt threads and seep out under the bolt heads, staining the manifold.

dann on the same thought (leakeage) . i am having problems keeping the front and rear intake manifold rubber gaskets from leaking. it was suggested just filling both ends with silicon, but thats got me worried...
what's your take on this?

robin

The separate front and rear intake seals/gaskets, whether rubber or cork, almost always leak eventually; if you want those areas leak-free, use a 1/4" bead of Permatex Hi-Temp Ultra-Copper RTV instead when you install the intake. You'll have to pull the intake and clean the surfaces thoroughly to do that, and install new side gaskets too. Until then, there's not much you can do about it.

Dann & John, thank you ,both. i respect your opinions.you are my sources and i am glad you're here! either way i will have to pull the manifold again.

thank you ,best wishes

Robin, I replaced many manifolds, and when they come back with the same leak, it costs me money. Luckily I did it right the first time. I cannot say how greatful this product helped me from keeping those "Comeback's" out of my stall.
I would dab the 4 corners with this sealant, when using rubber insert maniflold gaskets. It sets up quick and you still have time to plant it square. Sorry, I am not pushing the product. It just works well.
GM Goodwrench RTV Silicone Rubber Sealant #12345739.
I would also look into the GM product line that uses a sealer for the manifold bolts. I do not have that pt. no. ...sorry.
Squeaky clean, dry, and oil free surface contacts, are key to getting the best possible sealing results using any silicone product.

cntrhub, thank you also for the advice. i will keep the part number handy. i did some hop-up work in the 80's. but this is the first engine that has given me fit about that particular leak.

thanks
