I saw this on here http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/corvette.html

Holy moly. I almost want to buy another Vette to do this to it. Thats if I had the extra, oh , say 10 grand!

Does anybody know what this kit is? I know that Daytona/Batmobile kit is around 4500 on there but this is gotta be somthing crazy. I give an A+ in originality.

It's actually not a kit. It is a Corvette concept called the Aero-Vette from 1976. It originally had a four rotor motor in it but GM dumped it and put in a small block.

You would need more than an extra 10 grand to get that baby. Priceless...

I haven't posted this yet, but...

My 78 Pace Car was on display at a rather nice concours car show this past weekend. My car didn't really deserve to be there but hey, they didn't have any other 78 PC for the 50th Anny display so I got the invite.

Anyhow, my car was on display not 50 yards from the 73 Aero-Vette, the Mako Shark, and the Sting Ray Racer, as well as one other Vette concept car!! I was humbled and speechless (due to the drool running down my face). And I was parked rear bumper to rear bumper with the original 1953 Corvette concept/show car developed for the Motorama that year to first introduce Corvette to the public!!!!! Experiment 122 it was called. Also in the display was a 25th Anny, 40th, and 50th Annys. No 82 or 96 Collector Editions surprisingly. They also had a C-5 retrofitted by a company in Michigan with new body panels to make it look like a 53 - and painted that same color with the interior redone in red.

I'm still working on getting my pictures sized and posted - but I'll get them up to share with y'all.

And one last thing about the V8 the Aero Vette got in 76, they mounted it sideways - transversly. It looked like quite a tight fit behind the seats.

Notice the aluminum wheels on the Aero-Vette from 73. GM finally ended up using the design but not till 78. I've heard that was due to them having problems with getting the right aluminum alloy that would seal tight and not leak air from the tires. Anybody know if there's any truth to that? If not, why would they wait 5 more years to put that wheel on production cars?

aero vette

Back in spring of '89 I went to Disneyland during the retro beach promotion they had going that season...(I still remember the use of "California Sun" song redone for the commercials) Anyways as I walking up to the ticket booths, along the center area were large tents set up. From afar, I could see they were vintage 'Vettes. But as I got closer and through the crowd, I was shocked. It was one of a kind prototypes and various Bill Michell's concept Vettes...The Mako shark, Mule of the Sebring Racer, Aerovette, etc!

Forget Mickey and the poor girl!

I had seen them all only from the books and was spouting off with drool the historical signifigance of each car. She stood there shaking her head as I was scrambling around the cars shooting off all my film.

I'll post the photos when I find them, but my photos or the ones in Corvette books don't do the Aero Vette justice. It's an amazing and beautiful car to see in real life. Makes one wonder if it had gone into production how Vettes would look like today.
