Would shaving emblems off of a Silver Anniversary be going too far?

  • Yeah, stick with the emblems!

  • No, take 'em off. The two-tone silver is still a give-away.

What do you all think? I am going with a sleek look with 18" wheels, shaved antenna (going with an internal and filling the hole). I don't have hood emblems, but will removing the cross flags and Silver Anniversary emblems from the fenders, nose, and fuel door be taking it too far? Sound off here!

if i had that car i would leave it as it is, i think it also depends as to what you want to do with the car, is it gonna be daily driver, track car , but its your car its your choice, have fun with it

Thanks for the vote. The car is way beyond stock already, modern LT1, overdrive tranny, etc. The suspension and rack and pinion steering are waiting in the boxes. The car is a weekend warrior that I want to start taking to the track on occasion.

I don't think you should call it a Silver Anniversary anything, what a shame. Why don't you sell it to someone who cares about history and buy yourself a ride that you can beat up or take on the track.
My .02............:argue :duh :nono :r :bash :(

I thought the silver 2 tone was just a color option on the 78,& just became sort of a "urban legand"as a designated anniversary model

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I suppose. I really don't think mine was headed for a museum either way. I suppose one of the other 15,000 B2Z cars made in 1978 could make it though. But you never really answered my question, did you? I do care about history, and that is why I bought the car. I don't beat up my cars, and this one will only be at the track once or twice a year. But, if you were making an offer, I will sell it to you for $25,000 and you can replace all the damage I have done to your hearts content! Thanks for stopping by! :beer

I'm not saying shame on you, I said what a shame and I did vote on your poll.........Good luck..:xmas

I guess I missed the point of your post. My bad! The poll wasn't designed for praise or criticism on the entire direction of my car. I just wanted some opinions on what the emblems add to the car. It needs a repaint anyway, and I am going to repaint it two-tone silver. At least it will still look like it did the day it rolled off of the line in Saint Louis.

...Having a B2Z myself...

I'd keep the emblems.
However, since this isn't about me...this is YOUR vette, and it sounds like you rescued it and restored it to your liking...and if you like the sleek look...GO FOR IT! (but keep the emblems)

Who knows, you may change your mind later and want to put them back on the 78SA! I think they look classy. Besides, you'll still have the emblems on the steering wheel and shifter (unless you've changed those too, for the total sleeper look!)

I voted "take 'em off".
Good luck with your plans.

Tony: The Silver Anniversary package was available in 1978 which included the special two-tone paint scheme, aluminum wheels and sport mirrors.
All 78s have the 25th badges. The Pace Car was to commemorate the first time pacing the Indy 500 while the SA was an afterthought (IMO) to commemorate the 25th year of vette production.

You have already gone this far, so you are a long way from stock. I would hate to see an all original car getting shaved up with 18" wheels, but yours isn't so customize away! I would like to see how it looks when it is finished. ;)

After i swapped to fuelinjection and the new electronblue paint i swapped my emblems to the c5 style i just liked the look better on it,people critized me at first till they saw it then loved the look,so do what you want, its your car.

Patsnitrovette:

How dare you.
I can't believe you posted that picture.
You teased me by saying you took a 78 SA, cleaned it up, painted it electron blue and replaced the logos. I'm also assuming you didn't stop there either.

And all I get to see is the nose?????????

WE NEED MORE PICS!!!!!

LETS SEE THAT BAD BOY.

Brian,

It's your ride, set it up how you like it. I may suggest to hang on to all the badging you remove, and maybe even getting that front emblem. There may come a time when those Emblems will no longer be in stock or reproduced, which would make them very hard to find and very expensive.

If I saw you car without the badging on it I would guess it to be a 78 or 79 unless other body panels were modified. Paint is paint and more or less can make the Corvette appear to be anything you want it to be, that would not indicate to me that it is a SA or PC 78 until I looked at the VIN. I've seen some great fake 1978 Pace Cars.. they had everything except the right VIN ;)

AutoCross or Drag Race which ever you plan to do and enjoy the car the way you want, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says. Getting defensive or having to justify why I do something to my Corvette is something I avoid, unless someone else wants to pay the bills for her ;)

Enjoy the ride!

DO what YOU want, not what others want. I would be very interested in seeing a picture or two of it. I would also like to see how many people have their toy flamed or other graphic paint job. I'm a hot rodder and I love a good flame or graphic job regardless what it's on. :Steer

I with the " Whatever Floats Your Boat" group even though I'm kind of a purist at heart.
It's your ride, enjoy it:_rock

Listen to ME. You HAVE to do EXACTLY what I say to do.

:)

Sorry, couldn't resist it - everybody else was being so "Peace, Love, Donny Osmond" about it... :)

Keep the emblems!

I'm ALL for modifying!

What I'd do is work on a couple of additions - one of's - to reflect your changes - in a style coherent with the '78 emblems.

I'll never forget a Mustang I saw once with a big block - they had redone the emblems to say "Mustang 8.0". They sell some emblems in one of the suppliers for "502 Turbo Jet" for the air filter cover - that sort of thing.

Yeah, I have decided to keep the emblems. The wife actually spoke up and said she liked them. I will do ANYTHING to keep/get her interested in this car! Thanks for all the suggestions. :beer

What is a B2Z, reffering to a 1978 ?

B2Z is the option for the two-tone silver paint.

The Silver Anniversary paint scheme

It was the paint option, it came with alum. wheels and sport mirrors.
