Hi All,
My 74 vette still has original bumpers and its time to replace them. But I cant decide on wether to buy fiberglass or urethane[rubber] I want to get two piece due to the fact that 74 is the only year with the split rear bumper. Looking for opinons, which one fits better, last longer and looks the best. Front and back.

I replaced my cracked urethane with a fibreglass rear bumper some motnths ago. I went for fibreglass mainly because a) I guess it is less trouble to paint, and b) I don't need the rubber flexibility since I don't going to hit anything anyway... :)

Mine was the "flexible" fibreglass type, but it wasn't flexible enough to fit perfectly (and it will sure crack if you hit anything)... Don't expect the fit to be perfect (escpecially for fibreglass), mine was half an inch too short at a first glance, but I made it fit decent after some pulling and pushing with the help of a friend.
Also, the bumper isn't exactly "bolt on", you need to drill holes for the fasteners, and you need also to make cutouts for license plate fastener, and license plate lights. Apart from that, there was som minor imperfections that I had to fill and sand.

I went for a "fake" two-piece design. I still want to highlight that it is a '74.

An absolutely must is to buy a new set of fastners, that can be found in most catalogues. They are much more simple and handy than the old type of fasteners. Drill holes that are rather large in the bumper, and you are able to adjust it more before you tight the nuts.

The look after painting would be the same I guess. The original urethane ones could be a bit "wavy", but I think the new ones are manufactured in a better way.

I don't know about fiberglass or rubber....

I'd go with the two piece design!

a) its original style
b) its 1974 only which is cool.
