Well folks...I guess it was time (Firts time on the Vette was 4 weeks after I had purchased the Vette. This old guy crossed the double-yellow line on a traffic jam, and the intersection was being kept clear by all the drivers, so it was safe, or so I thought., to make a left turn, and wham! The guy hit me on the left front wheel and cracked the fender too, of which repairs I was not able to complete until last year [and posted about it] that was 1985]and now...I rear-ended someone yesterday and Gail is looking as if she was suckered-punched..:eek:eek:eek:ohnoes

That emblem hurt more than I thought it would. It was an NOS emblem which I had found in Germany for a pretty penny. And now it is gone in a flash. I found it split in half on the road later on yesterday. :(

I will take Gail tomorrow for another quote on another shop to see what I working with.

I noticed today that the driver's side headlight cover to be sagging and showing a bigger gap than usual. I am thinking of removing the bumper so that I can inspect the bumper support and other parts underneath.

Bud,

I would give anything to see you come out west, even if for the wrong reason...:chuckle;):L

The bumper looks like its the original urethane!:ugh
and you really can't tell that the D/s headlite door has dropped.

Damn..

1) Glad you didnt get hurt
2) Just repeat: It's only money. (Keep repeating)

Sorry Gerry, i can feel your pain all the way over here. And if the place in Germany had another emblem, be happy to get it for you and ship it. Just say the word.

The bumper was a GM replacement bumper that got replaced by in 85 when I got hit just 4 weeks after buying it. And that's what is what I meant about being about time (with the odds against one and all) because it is my second accident in 24 years, except two other previous accidents: a teenager got her foot stuck I'm the gas pedal when I lived in Tracy , California , and she ran into my parked Jeep Cherokee with the rear of her car, and second, a kid made a lane change without looking or seeing me next to him, and his car kissed (kissed, for if I had not swerved away from him when there was nobody on my other side, the kiss would have turned into a knock-out punch with a replacement fender, headlight assembly, and more ) , and so it only caused the fender lip on the Vette to crack about an inch on the side that required the major repatching due to the bungling on the 1985 accident repair.

Thanks Stefan! :)

I appreciate the offer. I have been wanting to hit the road somewhere , and Gail still gets the approval waves and signs of "thumbs up" as well, but I would not dare to take her out the way she looks on a long trip.

I have been working on my 71 Acadian trying to correct some battery rot I found in the radiator support. But delays caused by the shipment of the wrong radiator support has kept my car in the garage, and it is hard to work on the Vette when the other car cannot be moved out of the garage.

I'll see where the vendors are in Germany and if they have another NOS emblem. Thanks again!

I watched the effort and time that went into getting Gail her new dress...sorry to see this happen, but like has already been said, it's good you weren't hurt. It doesn't look like Gail was hurt too badly, and she can certainly be fixed!

Ashame to see Gerry, especially with the new paint Gail got last year!
But as said your personal health is more important then the bodywork on the vette.
Good luck with the repairs and I hope to see you up and running with Gail in no time :)

Groeten Peter

Gerry,

Don't worry about the nose emblem ;) I have a NOS in the shop, never got around to putting it on RARE... might someday, BUT if you get cornered and need it... Gail can have it ;)

Also these nose emblems are not near as hard to find now a days. I think someone bought the design and making them. They seem to appear quite often on Ebay.. Here are a couple of 1981 Only Ebay Sites ..

Ebay 1981 Parts / Accessories and Ebay 1981 Cars and Accessories

Here is a 1981 Nose Emblem on Ebay right now

The price has gone WAY down from a couple of years ago... I've seen them go for as high as $125, but now around $40 or so, depends if it has the buy now or a couple of fools start bidding on it.. :chuckle

Speaking of a couple of fools bidding on a 1981 Nose Emblem :boogie Remember Howie (1981corvette) from California... :chuckle :chuckle I ran him up to $90 or somewhere around there on a nose emblem back about 5 or 6 years ago, when they were really hard to find... :ohnoes ANYway... Howie has a bunch of them, I think he was trying to corner the market on them. You could give Howie a shout out Try both PM and Email ;)

AND as I said If all else fails Rare will loan GAIL her extra one ;)

RARE seems to have forgiv'n ya... ME I'm still working on it :D
(Just like a Marine, a bull in a china shop)

Bud

I do have a nose emblem.I bought at Carlisle 2 years ago.
It's not NOS,but it is yours if you want it.
I just bought it for a spare.
somebody must have started making them again b/c I have seen them for a few years now.
I can get another spare next year!!!
I can only imagine what Yoda had said in his PM based on the last post!!!!:boogie:boogie

Bill, ...Bud,

Thanks for the offers. I guess that I'll install an aftermarket nose emblem. I should have bought an aftermarket one and kept the NOS tucked away, if not just for originality.

Hey Bill,

Yeah, what Bud said was, "xpletive, xpletive, $%&^ ...hammmer your )#%$'ing noggen...next time...xpletive....;):L;LOL:rotfl ...jk.

Bud loves me...;):D;LOL...I am like the kid he's glad he never had...:eyerole:rotfl:L

p.s. By the way, the folks who painted Gail for me came back with an estimate of $2,400 dollars. About $1,100 of that in parts. They will have to repaint the fenders as well from the door on to the front. The hood looks like is safe the way it is.

And I am thinking that if the economy would be strong like it was 3 or 4 years ago, that it would have been a quote equivalent to $1,600 - $1,800 dollars (with the current weakness of the dollar/ inflation / depression)...don't you guys/gals think?

So not too bad. The bumper alone is $500 dollars, and they quoted the guts underneath as well.

Will the bumper be a new urethane or glass???
or can they fix that one????
I don't see why they have to paint the fenders all the way back to the doors when the paint is only a year old.

Good Luck!!!

On the ps. I would think the other way around.

Inflation isn't such a big problem I think, all the labor and parts are from your country so no high exchange rates euro > dollar. Second, with so little work to do and so many companies wanting it, it pushes the price down. Here in Holland companies are even building houses without making money or even loose money just to keep the workers bussy. Just my .02 dollar.
