Overheating/Fog lamps won't turn on

.. (you DID say your fans are not coming on, right, post #1?).
It has yet to be determined at what actual engine temp his fans are not running
Analog gauge is well known for reading high

260 is pretty near bottomed out on the analog gauge isn't it? I don;nt want to know what the top of the digital is...highest I've seen was 250 and that was enough to need a paramedic..

Owners manual says to turn engine off if it reaches 260 and let it cool down :ugh

What I am trying to establish is; is the engine is actually " overheating" or if OP is seeing a erroneous reading from the analog gauge.
He has not compared analog to digital readings ( doesn't even know where the digital gauge is )

OP has made no mention of coolant boiling / overflowing / or other signs that the engine was excessively hot ;only that he has seen a high gauge reading and his fans did not cut in

If you have been a around the C4 forums long enough you will have seen plenty of posts from newby owners freaking out because the engine was over 200;
a temp they had never seen on other cars

I understand what you;re attempting to communicate...believe me, I understand how delicate these systems are, and how easily false readings can appear. I had a loose connector on the dash temp display sendor that routinely indicated jumps or differences in temp of 30 degrees...until the contact was cleaned and tightened.
Knowing that there are no 2 temp senders,sensors or gauges that are the same circuit, a good evaluation of all the available temp info is necessary to come up with even a guess as to whats going on. 260 degrees....a motor would be knocking and showing other signs of distress...coolant overflowing would be a hint. If he boiled it once and did not refill, that would explain the next event.

I was trying to remember what the last number is thats on the analog gauge....thought that it was 260 somewhere toward the far right of the dial..I don;t think any number on the gauge is needed thats higher than 260....other than that of a tow truck.:L

yea its at like 260, t may be a sign of overheating because I think my intake gasksets are shot, anytime id take it for a ride id has a little pool of coolant sitting above my manifold(below the fuel rail) I think that may have cause it, and i dont hear a knocking noise under the oil pan so i dont have any type of piston slap

Is the coolant at the correct level? What is the condition of the coolant? Look at it, is it clean looking? It is possible you are low, and are seeing incorrect readings. Bottom line is, you need to start somewhere and work to a solution.

The knocking from the pan and knocking from extreme overheating are 2 completely different things...

the later WILL lead to the other.

Like the others suggest, better start somewhere. Letting coolant leak is an appt for an overhaul.

Overheating could be caused by coolant pooling on top of the intake near the injectors.

Intake-to-heads is notorious on L98 and LB9.

Yikes! 1,000 posts! Ain't I special!

(no, not special ed.)

.:update:.

So today I took the liberty to check out my corvette, check out why my fans wont turn on, and after doing some work, it turned out to be a fuse and the battery, I had such LOW voltage that the battery couldnt handle enough amps to power the fans, they are kickin on! As for the fuses I have a 3 amp fuse, I replaced it with a 5 amp, BINGO! I recommend EVERYBODY to check there amps before dishing out any money that you may think be the relay switch, the fans, anything that may trigger the problem work BACK to the main source I spent 550 dollars just for a mechanic say/fix it was a thermostat, my dashboard readings weren't right, bad wire harness. now if I can just figure out why I get a pool of coolant on my intake manifold, going to check all the torque specs on all the bolts, thank you boomdriver and vetteoz for help!

Problem is ;
unless it is only the bolts either side of coolant crossover that are loose ( very common ) and allowing coolant to leak ;
you have to dismantle so much of the TPI intake to get at the other intake bolts ( runners have to come off ) that you might as well pull the intake and replace the gaskets anyway while you are there

Hey vetteoz, thanks for your helpful advice, yea I agree, I seriously just started my corvette about 10min ago just to let it run, and I was looking at the bolts, didnt mess with them at all just checked em out, another little thing i noticed was a squeeking noise by the balancer/pullies it comes and goes i think it maybe some water or coolant got in between and thats what causing the squeek, Im replacing my thermostat soon with a new gasket, but my main concern is this coolant leak, its on both sides on the manifold, ill take a pic later today and post it up here.

Ah ha!

Turned out to be a bad water outlet gasket, a friend of mine test pressured it and it was leaking out by the outlet :)
