Help! I just threw my first PCM code: P 0440 - is this also an EVAP leak? Any hoses or fittings I need to be checking since I already did the gas cap thing. Cannisters? Many thanks in advance.

Gary

Hi there,
Yes, you are correct. This is for a large evaporative leak.
Now, It is possible that the gas cap is NOT sealing correctly.
Have you smelled any fuel vapor outside the car, other than when you fill up?????
Did the cap move at all before it started clicking????
This leak will be very obvious.
Now, has there been any repair work done????
Please let us know, and we can proceed.
Besttoyou, c4c5:hb

c4c5: Thank you for replying so quickly. Here are a few facts:

New motor installed last week. Everything appears to be working just fine.

I did try the gas-cap thing. Seems to be seating OK but I am not capable of determining if that is the problem. I do not recall smelling gas but I have had a cold so the old sniffer may not be up to the task.

No other PCM codes. Also, you should know, I am NOT the most mechanically savvy guy.

I am taking it to my local Chevy dealer on Friday to have them troubleshoot this. I just want to make sure that it is OK to drive the car in the meantime. The check engine light is not a flashing light so I don't think this is anything catastrophic.

Anything I can check in the meantime?

Gary

HI there,
Well, a new engine, ???
Oh, well, then remove the drivers side injector cover, and you will see a small accordion hose, plastic, that goes to the firewall, next to the brake booster.
Is that connected????
This will run to a solenoid on the engine, that has a red/black connector for the electrical.
Please let us know what you have, besttoyou, c4c5:hb

c4c5: went to the dealer this morning to have a couple of other things checked out and you were absolutely correct. That accordion hose had not been properly connected and was the source of the code.

I really want to thank you for your immediate help. Now, if we could only get you to move to Southern California!

Many thanks,

Gary
