Edmond, I remember you replaced your brake booster a while back. How the heck do I get to those 2 nuts? I can not even see them with a mirror!!!

To make things worse I have really big hands so every time I try to feel around in there I get stuck and end up tearing skin off of my knuckles.ad (A friend of mine who is a Gynecologist always introduces me as his new associate just to see the look on the patient’s faces.)

You will need these tools and the correct socket size, sorry but I forgot what size it is:

The nuts are located one on each side of the steering column, IIRC.

Put the extension onto the wrench, then the universal at the end of the extension and then the correct socket at the end of the univeral.

You should have an universal laying around somewhere. If not, they're a pretty common tool at HD or whatever is in the neighborhood.

It took me a few hours to do it because of the awkward position that I had to be in. Some people will lay upside down on the door sill, which is what I did. But when the blood starts collecting in your brain, it's time to take a break. It's really easier if you have someone else working with you so they can flash a light in there.

If I recall correctly, there is a cotter pin holding the rod of the brake and the back of the booster together.

Hey Spanish ya may want to get a contortion artist to help you. I got big hands too but managed to do it alone. It took about 4 hrs and many words that shouldn't be said around sailors, much less women or children.


The two nuts are almost at the windshield it seems like, my long skinny arms could just barely reach them. I think Edmond is right you have to disconnect the brake pedal from its rod that goes .... somewhere I can't remember. The toughtes part is getting the washers and nuts back on. Joy joy more fun to look forward to. I think the nuts are about 10mm but they may be 15mm. I found that a 1/4" drive with a stubby extention worked best for me. Once you find the little buggers you can sit up a bit and loosen them and tighten them back down.

I layed in the floor and had my head almost up under the dash when I did mine. Of course legs were flailing all about. it was almost easier to prop your calves up on the headrest with the seat all the way back.

Good luck ... I wouldn't wish this endevor on my worst enemy. Hopefully I don't have to do it again.

The new booster has not arrived yetad and we are out of town next week so Thunder has a few more days in the shop.

The FIA changed the disquilification of our #1 driver from the last race to a 25 second penalty but it could still cost the Team the National championship so everyone is working like crazy to be sure the Team gets the MAX # of points in the last 2 races.

One of the Mechanics put a warning on the wall of the garage at the track that reads:

¨DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE BOSS OVER OUR PRICES, RULES, AGE LIMITS OR HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS. DOING SO WILL ONLY LEAVE YOU WISHING THAT YOU HAD NEVER BEEN BORN.¨

Be sure you adjust the rod on the new one the exact same distance out from the booster as the old one before you put it in, within a 1/16" or the throw might not be right. It took me 6 hours to replace mine. I was never so mad in my life. If I had an Abrahams Tanks I would've run over the old one, shoved it down the barrel, pointed towards Bolwing Green and BANG...!!! ad

You have one of those "someone have to do it " jobs ahead, and the long wait for the new booster is not helping with your "kind & charming" personality!

I just hope your employes know how to deal with a "loveable and compasionate" man full of stress when his "joy and pride" is "resting" in the shop. (I wouldn´t like to be in their shoes) :L

I know what you´re going through, last july my red babe spend more than 30 days at the shop because I could not find the transmission oil pump & the torque converter.

I hope Thunder is coming back soon to keep teaching the "euros" what a good ole 383 vette can do.

Try removing the seat & tracks only takes about 15 min. you will have lots more room....
