I purchased a 2004 Mag Red Coup in Oct. and the rear quarter panel is about 4 shades lighter than the rear facia.
I was just asking if anyone else has had this problem and what did the local or area rep do about it if anything?

they are painted seperately in the factory.................

True, all of the body panels are painted separate from the factory. The different shade is because of the different type of material that the bumper is made of.GM has had a problem with this for years.Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they still dont match. If you ever get a chance look at some original cars from the 80s.Monte Carlo SS was bad for that.Early to mid C4s were bad for that also.In the 80s there was also an issue with GM not putting clear on the bumpers but using it on the rest of the car.

Same problem on my white '04..........the seam line where the rear bumper meets the rear quarter it almost has a gray appearance when you look at it from different angles......

The front and rear bumpers are painted separately from the rest of the panels. All other body panels are placed on a body jig and as one sent through the paint process. I would recommend calling 1-800-CHEV-USA and speak to a Customer Service Rep.

well Adam I took your advice and called the Chevrolet customer service. They in turn called the dealer and the area rep and got there story, so I back where I stated from. After ordering this car and waiting for it to be built I can't belive the factory would let a car get out with this much difference in the color. I fell like driving down to the plant and ask if the Quility control dept. was off the day this one was built. Its like you are hitting your head against a wall to try to deal with the Area manager who I don't belive gives two cents about the customer.

Hey simple word of advice, escalate this matter as high as you can take it. I have found that GM will work with you after a little pushing a going up the latter.

good luck

:v

I have an 02 Magnetic red , the only time I can tell the rear and front bumper is off an shade is in the garage , outside in sun light they match . They do a really good job at the end of the assembly line , extra parts prepainted ready for a swap out . Chevy does not want you to go to Bowling Green and wait outside for them to bring out a matching panel , your dealership does not want to keep ordering a new one until one matches your car , they should send five rear bumpers and let you pick one that you think best matches .Do not let the dealership repaint , factory uses a silica paint .
Good luck,
Joe

You cant order pre painted parts from GM.Your only choice is to repaint the bumper and blend into the fenders.Thats the only way to make it match 100%.And if you are going to get GM to pay for it the dealer is going to be the one to do it.
