I have a Black 96 LT4 with both Balck painted and Blue "see-thru" tops. My problem is the flat black trip paint on the painted top is peeling away and is now showing a bare metal trim piece at the front of the top near the windshield.

Has anyone else had this happen?

If so what/how was it resolved?

:confused

Thank you.

yes, it has happened to me. It is common for it to come off around the windshield and on the areas on the top (epecially those funny shaped tabs at front of the top on each side) You can do one of 2 things.

1. touch up the areas with flat black paint.

2. Sand down the areas, then re-paint. The problem here is it doesn't seem that you can ever stop sanding, so you may wind up re-painting all the black on the top. On a side note, spray painting it will look much better.

By just doing option 1, you will hide the areas pretty well, unless you get really close to the car... the bare metal really sticks out at you from far away.

Sounds like you have had the same thing on those "tabs" that I now have. I will just do the whole top as I have the other top should I need to put it on. Any recomendations on the kind of paint you used?

thank you,

T.

I have actually had goodl luck with flat black krylon. If you really want to get some good paint auto paint, you can go to your local paint and body shop supplier and buy a can of flat black trim spray, specifically designed for cars.

You can buy touch-up for trim molding, stay away from power spay washing.
