I just droped off my 80 to be painted, its white now but iam thinking of changing the color, to gray, 1981 gray, i have a few days to deside if i want to change it, its just a plan 190 hp vette, i dont think changing the color would decrease the value ?, i would think gray would sale better and faster then white, if and when i sale, what is all your thoughts on this, i seen in some posts where guys say hey its your vette paint it what color you want, but would like your thoughts ty

Paint it what ever color you like as long as it goes with the interior. Rare81's grey paint looks great but I don't know exactly what color it was.

i like the gunmetal gray on the Vipers. or even the SteelCity gray Corvettes once had...they make the chrome really POP!

If you like gray and want to stay with a Corvette color, do a search for Spiral Gray Corvettes. I think Spiral Gray has been available for the past 4 or 5 years, but I note that is has been discontinued for the C6. It's a little darker than what most people think of as "gray", but in person it has a real depth.

Good Luck,

kdlp

I would think that the only thing a Corvette owner would consider before changing something on his vette, would be if that particular vette had some historical significance for Corvettes overall.

Personally, I like silver and grey.
My 78SA has been repainted, and it was not painted to stock specs other than color and color placement. The striping was masked and painted with clear coat over all layers. I like it better than the stock paint job and stripe tape application.

Thanks Craig :D

Rare was painted with Dupont Chroman (sp) Base coat/Clear coat. The shop crossed the original paint code 84L and it is almost a perfect match.. I have the Laq. Paint (84L) in my garage, but I've promised it to GerryLP ;) living in NM he can use it, where me living here in Kalifornia :(

Heidi,

I like the way you think.

the color iam thinking is 81 Charcoal Metallic , it would still be a vette color just for the 81, hard call to make, while is not as hot, could break it down with some stripes, say on the hook, and above the wheels, maybe something on the back , man then again , iam wanting strip"s on it anyway, so guess what ever it ends up being, will have strip"skeek it coming, you all are helping, any strip pics would help deside what to go with to, ty all your alway"s much help

Rare81

not a good picture, but maybe search for Cruise-fest pics for a better one

My second Vette was a charcoal metallic 81--I think it's an awesome color even today. Darker than Spiral Grey, and to me just the right amount of metal flake in it. You sure don't see many Corvettes in that color. I say press--it's not like you're cutting up a 63 coupe. Paint it, drive it, and look in every window you pass at how good the car looks! Andy

The charchole grey is a great look.
I would think that or silver which mine is would
sell better than white, if thats your plan.
If not just paint it what ever color you want.
They always looked great in torch red.

After fresh paint ;)

This photo really doesn't do her justice, the metallic and the grey just doesn't come through with the photo ;)

WOW what a differance, now just to deside , if i should put stripes on it, have not seen any real nice strip jobs on vettes a like

Do you mean pin stripes for accenting the fender/hood curves or wider racing stripes?
Heidi

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but i've always thought that bringing back a color like war bonnett yellow(gold 989) would be an interesting thought. a nice touch of history to a more recent year. haven't seen too many.

yes , pin stripes for accenting the fender/hood curves or wider racing stripes, would break the plan paint down i think.
