Am tinkering-on an '80 Vette that will be strip-only, and while I want something that "stands-out", I don't want anything 'gaudy', either, 'maybe' with the sole addition of a single, wide stripe down the center.....

Car is currently Yellow exterior/Black interior (originally White/Red), and 'well-used', so originality is of no-importance, and will ned re-squirted before it hits the track.

Am leaning towards '80 Yellow, '82 Gold (less than 700 that color), Hot Pink/Fuchia (imagine telling the guys you'd "lost to a Hot Pink Corvette"...), Silver metal-flake (same as Kevin Harvick's #29 Monte Carlo), or Black (just like my '82 "street" Vette)......
and now I've got to consider Charcoal Metallic, too!!!!!

I have spoken with Richard Childress Racing, and the Silver Metal-flake is available from Sherwin-Williams:
opinions-on Charcoal Metallic with a Silver metal-flake stripe????

OK;
now, how-about a few UN-biased opinions?????
;)

Like I said earlier I like the color of Rare81 and think it would look even better with a silver metalflake stripe and big wide slicks in the back:D :cool

Well its being painted sat. morn. Charcoal Metallic code 84, was striped, and now is ready to paint, man it going to look nice, post some pics when done.

Hey Steve,

I'm almost as excited as when I had Rare in getting her new paint... PLEASE, PLEASE post some photo's when you get her home...

I went down the body shop and saw Rare about 2 hours after she got out of the paint room. My buddy MAKO 81 was wide eyed and kept saying oh my god, oh my god... I wasn't real iimpressed, I saw what looked like orange peel and it just didn't seem to grab me like I was hoping.. Donnie the body shop manager noticed I was quiet, and told me to come with him.... We went outside to a carport type area, there a couple of guys had buffers and stuff, then we walked to the back of the lot, there sat this gorgeous, I MEAN gorgeous light green Mach 1 mustang...

The paint was as deep as anything I've ever seen, and smooth like glass... Donnie said "This is what Rare will look like as soon as these guys get her in here and Cut Her" That made my knees go weak :D and Rare came out looking :upthumbs ;)

My point is, if you see you 81 fresh out of the paint shop, before they get her/him buffed out, don't be disappointed ;)

Iam in hamilton also, Iam having Mirror magic paint it , Lane Couch, 2201 Grand Blvd. 895-5300, go up there mon. and talk to him, iam sure he will let you look at it.

Charcoal Gray

I think it would look AWSOME on that car. Go for it !!

got to see it today,no orange peel at all, will post pics when she gets home

Steve,
I will check it out! You are the second person in two weeks who has recommended Lane Couch at Mirror Magic.

That color would be very effecient on a bracket-car;
it would almost 'blend-in' with the pavement, making it difficult for the opponent to 'judge' the nose at the stripe....

MY problem is I've always wanted a radical color on my race-car;
still leaning towards Hot Pink/Fuchia, Neon Yellow, or Metalflake Silver, but will definitely have-to consider this color when it comes time to squirt it.....

Yeah iam realy pumped up about getting it back now that i seen it painted, fri. maybe he said.

You people are all forgetting one thing about color. It doesn't matter what color you choose because 'All Corvettes are Red'. There is a book by the same title. ;)

Does rare 81 have any more pictures? I too have a 23 year old charcoal that just can't hold a candle to the color of rare 81, that is sweet! What did the paint job cost you?

Well got it home looks great, i will post some pics of it when it clears up to take some, raining now been raining for days.

Paint looks great steves, I'm also in need of a paint job, any idea what kind of paint they used and how many coats? I'm thinking of black base coat with dark blue highlights and 3 coats of clear with maybe a tint to it, gotta do some research on vette painting before I start, Ive had good luck with ppg and dupont, if I can figure out how to get the rear spoiler off I'm gunna experiment on it when the snow starts.
