Parades and convertibles

I have recently been asked to drive my 04 convertible in a parade with a person sitting on the deck.
Is the deck designed to hold this kind of weight?
Are there things I should look out for if I do this?

I have no problem with that - in fact, Corvette convertibles have been used for years in parades with people sitting on the tonneau cover.

I have a custom made foam padded terry cloth cover that fits the tonnear cover just for this sort of thing. It has straps that attach it to the cover and fringe around it to make it look better. To aid entry and exit, move the passenger seat all the way forward with the back folded forward and have the person step in behind the seat and then sit down.

If nothing else, get a large beach towel for the person to sit on as their clothes will scratch the paint.

Generally, my riders have been beauty gueens and a couple of politicians. I did draw the line at a 350+ pound Cherokee chief sitting on the tonneau though.

Ask the ladies to please remove their heeled shoes so they don't have a tendency to rest their (spiked heels) feet on the front seat and leave any marks.

No problem we do it all the time. We have girls sit in open T-tops too! Heidi is correct, the high heels are the bigest threat. I have a cover for my console. We always do one homecoming parade. I'm thinking about building a seat something on the order of Tuna's for it.

Let's face it...if she's good looking with a killer bod, no boyfriend, age equal to or greater than 18 (but less than ancient), no morals, and no father with a shotgun...


you let her sit anywhere she wants to.


Remember though...you have to face forward and drive.

If she does match the above requirements...let me know if you want me to ride shotgun.

Alright folks, before this thread starts going in the direction of making beauty queen jokes, let's get back to the original question.

Participating in Parades is sort of the Corvette's call to service. After all, the Corvette isn't a truck, which means your friends can't press you into service to help them move. For most of us who participate in a local Corvette club, being a part of a parade (4th of July Holiday, Veterans Day, Local High School Homecoming or Prom Season, St. Patrick's Day, etc) is simply something we do to show off our cars!

Sometimes, we get asked to provide a ride for some of the participants the parade is celebrating. Ultimately, that's a personal call the owner of the Corvette must make. The Corvette can take it (up to a reasonable weight limit), but you should take precautions regarding having a surface for them to sit on to avoid clothing scratching the car, and ask them to remove their shoes while riding.

Trust me, the Corvette can handle that.

I agree, use the Vette in a parade, with one word of caution. If you have a 6 spd, watch your oil temps and prepare for a little riding of the clutch. It will get quite hot, and your left leg will be put to the test! But I would think a 'looker' on the back of a 'looker vette', is something that will make every little boy in the parade say, when I grow up, that's what I'm going to be driving!!!

As long as it is not the Miss Bratwurst Parade in Sheboygen, you should be allright....

As stated - make certain precautions to protect the paint on your tonneau, and ask the participants to remove shoes to protect the seat and console areas.

I have to admit I had "bad thoughts" regarding the parade scenario - thoughts of a young lovely with a short skirt sitting on the waterfall area....what would be your view in the rearview mirror? :naughty:
