Part no longer available

Hello All, New to the forum and appreciate what I've read. I got my first corvette, and ooooo is it cool. One problem I have though, the speedometer won't work untill a mile or so down the road. I'm thinking the speed sensor on the transmission is going bad. The problem is, is GM no longer manufactures the part, and it's not available as an after market item. All companys catalog it, but when ordered it comes up unavailable. Does anyone here have any ideas as to weather this one can be rebuilt, or information on the whereabuots of a replacement. The Spec's are:
1990 coupe
ZF 6 speed
It has a RPO of "D9B"
This has a part # of 25007308
3.33 rear end (I think it's the same part as or for the 3.07)
Also was thinking that if part is so hard to get it might never go bad and I possible may have something else going wrong. Any thoughts?

First check for a code 24...thats the VSS

Second...put the car on jack stands real good.

Remove the speedo from the dash...put your volt meter on AC (not DC) and probe between connector D-11 and C-15...Start the car and put it in drive...You should get around 8 volts.

I am willing to suggest that its the speedo and not the VSS. If so you have to send it out for repairs...its about 200 bucks to fix it.

If it is the VSS call this guy 800-414-4462 , he is suppose to have 40 of them on the shelf.

Also check this Delco Number...213-223 it is suppose to be the replacement number for your GM Number...call your local Delco dealer or go here to order it on line... http://www.ac-direct.com/

I checked codes and come up clean 12, with no codes, would you say that this verifies what you said as speedo being bad and not VSS?

Yes...put it in gear and let the wheels spin...block the front wheels while you have it up on the stands.

Tried to get the speedo out today, had it close but gave up when plastic started making a cracking sound, ordering a dealer service manual and will try again when it shows up. From what I can see the whole dash has to be removed. We'll see what it say when it gets here. Drove it today and the speedo worked perfectly after about 2 miles or so. Confusing! Thanks again for the help.
