Purchased a 1998 Coupe last October and have had the passenger side power window stop working. Took the car into the General Motors dealership where I purchased it and they cannot find the above part to fix my car. Does anyone know where I might check for this part? I continue to search after market and GM Parts stores but no luck. Surely, even though these are discontinued from GM SOMEONE makes them??? Any help will be appreciated. I should also mention, the GM Dealer did some searches at salvage yards but no luck.

HI there,

This part is discontinued from GM. However, looking for a used one usually brings more problems than it is worth.

Here is how I do it. First, I take the VIN and the old part number off your old module. Check parts for any updated part numbers as some do update.

From there, if there is no recourse, I would disassemble the module and replace the relay that is giving the problem.

But I would also ask, is the window the only thing not working?? Does the door lock work ?? Does the window work when the door is OPEN, but not when CLOSED???

Allthebest, Paul

C4C5specialist: Thanks for the info. The window does not work whether the door is open or closed. The door lock does work. I was able to find a replacement from a store in Sarasota, FL, C & S Corvettes Inc. It is a used part but C & S does guarantee what they sell. Hopefully, it will get the job done. I do intend to keep the original module and see if we can replace the relay and then have a back up. Other issues arising with the '98, though. CD changer does not work, driver's side seat auto adjust not working 100% of the time. Looks like the electronics need some attention. Thanks for your help.

Is the RDCM in a 99 the same part as in a 98?

I've been trying to diagnose a problem with a 99 belonging to a pal in my Club....

New 800 CCM battery with clean and tight connections.

Right door will not unlock after pressing fob unlock button twice.
Right door lock will not respond to lock button on inside of the door.
You can unlock door from outside with the key.
Right window doesn't respond to either window switch.
I can see everything on the class 2 bus except the right door module

If the engine is running, someone opens the right door and sits in the seat, as soon as the right door closes, numerous service message appear on the IP display. If I poll the class 2, my scanner will can't see any modules.

If you turn the key off and take it out. Wait a few seconds then restart the engine, all modules can be seen on the class 2 except the RDCM. Numerous history codes are set in all modules, but no current codes are present.

If I clear all codes, none reset until the door opens, someone sits in the seat and closes the door. Then all characteristics repeat.

If the engine is running and the door is opened and closed but no one sits in the passenger seat, no problems occur.

I'm guessing a wires/connections problem with the RDCM and maybe whatever sensors are in the passenger seat to sense someone sitting there.

What do you guys think?

HI there,

Its obvious you have a major communications failure with all Class 2 modules. The problem ends up that WHAT is causing it.

If modules lose power and/or ground, it can create a complete communications failure. So, with that in mind, I would be starting by checking all the powers and grounds for EVERY SINGLE MODULE.

Usually when I have a massive failure, I isolate each module individually to see if I can talk to each. Then, the one I cannot talk to, is usually the one killing the line.

Thanks Paul.

The car in question belongs to a member of my Club. I didn't have time to work on the car beyond my first diagnostic session so, she took the car to the local dealer.

I've not heard from her since she did that.

FYI: I found a place in Sarasota, FL that handles discontinued parts. They did have my door module. Took it to the dealer and had it installed. It worked one time. Took the car back to the dealer and told them the module has to be good and something else had to be the problem. They checked and found the motor for the window was shot. Replaced the motor and all is fine. The place in Sarasota is called C&S Corvettes. They were very helpful and if I do need to replace other items that are discontinued they'll be the first phone call. In fact, we spend February in Venice, which is about 30 minutes south of Sarasota. I plan to stop in and check out the place when we're down there. Thanks to everyone for their advice and help while I was sorting this out.
