As I am repairing a knock sensor ruined by oil leaks
I learned that there is a replacement PCV valve with a
smaller orifice for those that seem to use more oil than
normal. My #2 port was real stained and dirty and the gasket
arround the intake manifold was oil soaked as well. I use 1-2 quarts every 3,000.
Started to use oil at 60,000 and has used 2 quarts twice causing the low oil light ot come on. I carry a quart with me now.
Has anyone tried this replacement PCV valve and had any experiences to share.
How can you determine ring condition and if a replacement is necessary? Power and economy seem fine. Slightly rough idle.
My 98 is 5 years old and has 80,000 miles are these routine failures to be expected. I don't race or abuse my car. Just the occasional Banzi run to 100 in third.

Hi there,
I would really take a good look at the PCV valve itself.
Is there a GM one in there, or an aftermarket. I have many that start consuming oil later on down the line, due to someone using an aftermarket PCV, that is not correct for the car.\
Your correct AC part number is listed in your owners manual. Just remove it and check on the side of the valve. If it is an AC, the part number will be stamped on the side.

I told you in the other post I have had the car since it had 4,000 and had no record of the PCV valve being changed. However upon inspection the valve has no number stamped anywhere or if it did it has been rubbed off. I was cleaning the oil off the parts as I disassembled them. The is a shine of oil around the joint of the outer plastic tube and the metal case. But the valve appear loose and able to rattle. I have ordered the GM replacement for an oil consumption vehicle. I use about 1-2 quarts every 3,000 miles.
Also if it means anything, my number 2 cylinder intake port is black and gummy while the others are generally clean and the upper half of the ports are clean aluminum since I just ran two cans of De-carbonizing stuff through the engine.
Thanks for the input

I did check out the PCV and it was a GM part, but I felt it prudent to replace it anyway, since I did have some oil resdue arround the intake manifold. I choose the oil comsumpsion version which does not have a spring or valve but is a flat plate with a fixed orfice about a 1/8 of an inch in diameter. All seems well so far but I do now have a curious whistle from inside the manifold. When I unplug the PCV hose and cover the inlet with my finger the whistle stops??

Hi there,
The whistle is the fixed orifice, however, this is NOT designed for the 5.7. This is for the 5.3 and 6.0 that experience oil usage conditions. You will have further issues, and it should be removed.
