Gears

VMS4EVR ....thanks for info ...I read your posts ....were the part #'s listed GM or did you get these from same place as gears.

I see you mentioned GEAR WHINE ...how is that coming along now ...any better ? Is this normal with a gear change ? Any fix ?

I was thinking of doing this myself, however, I may contact a speed shop since reading these posts ....

Thanks for tips guys !

Rod.

...did you notice a significant difference in acceleration over stock ?
Did you put in a whole new diff. or just replace the gears in the stock one?

In the 1/4 mile with the 2.59 gear my car went 13.82@101. With the only change being the 3.54 gear the car then went 13.23@105.91 on radials, twice. It was consistenly in the 13.30's @ 105+ mph.
IMO that's a significant change.

Like I said before you are almost better off just buying a complete differential it will cost you about the same to have the gears replaced in your current rear end. If you have never done gears before I don't think it's something you want to mess with yourself. just my .02
good luck

;stupid Gears give you big benefits in accelleration... AND, have them done by a professional that has done gears before... a friend of mine did them on his Z28, by a so called gear professional, and he still cracked a tooth after a few thousand miles... get it done right the first time, or you will wind up paying to have them re-done:(

Very True, correct setup along with proper lubercation is key to sucess! anyhow if you want to keep the cost low you can purchase just the gear set remove the diff your self and take the carrier to a "Professional" and have them set it up on the bench. also at that time you may want to replace your traction unit(posi or actual diff everyone has there own name for it) thats some more bucks.. but still cheaper probably then buying a diff out right or will be close to a tradin price.. I'm shure if you have the complete job done at a shop it's going to be several hours labor plus parts.. but then atleast you won't have to get dirty and have someone to blame if something goes wrong on the install.
