You know, it's funny cuz the pics before the lowering were w/ my old (leaking) shocks so it almost looks already lowered a bit (which I liked). What you guys didn't see is when I put on the KYB's the car raised up considerably, which I didn't like, (no pics of that although I drove it for a week that way), so the difference between then & now is dramatic!
I'll tell ya', it feels great! No tire rub at all and I only scrape the front air-dam if I'm careless.
Got her aligned right after and she handles much better. A little stiffer w/ the drop but not much. Definitely feels better going into corners and considering that I have the base (FE1) suspension this car doesn't feel like it any more.
I was kinda sweatin' the whole "lowering thing". I didn't want to drop her to the ground, I just wanted her to sit low & mean w/o all that gap in the wheel well. Well, mission accomplished, cuz that is exactly the look & the feel that I was after. It sure is nice when it works out like that.
Selim,
Don't even say that! $$$$$$$$$ :L
You really had to see the car after I put on the new shocks as it raised it considerably (especially the front). The top pics on my web page were w/ the old shocks which caused the car to sag making it look like it was slightly lowered. Once I put on the new shocks there was a 4" gap (or close to that) between the front tire and fender. Now look at it. There is only at most an 1-1/2" gap, if that). Big difference!
The car looks terrific---congratulations! I can understand the anxiety, as any time you change something from stock you always wonder/worry if it will work. How do you like the KYBs?

This morning was the real test as I drove it to work (the usual route) and got to experience what I was up against w/ daily driving. Not one scrape although I do have to watch the front air-dam when backing out of the driveway (have one of those slanted curbs). Also throughout our residential area we have those little drainage channels (kinda like the opposite of a speed bump) that run acroos the side streets and I dont want to take those head on moving too fast. Take any considerable bumps sideways and slowly and I'm good to go. Once I'm rolling at a good clip any slight deviations in the road are not a problem cuz the car is plenty stiff & I still have plenty of clearance underneath.
Man the car feels great! The KYB's are the perfect balance between stiffness and comfort. The car has no "float" at all. I highly recommend them as a replacement shock for a C4. At $135 a set...you gotta love it. I was worried (kinda like w/ the Magnaflow) that the lower price would get me an inferior product but I opted for both and I have no regrets at all. I was this close to buying the Z51 Bilsteins or the Edelbrock Perfomers at twice the price.
Between the lowering & the KYB's my car handles/rides like a dream, and yes, all in all I spent some money but I got the look , the ride , & the handling all in one sweet package!
Definite anxiety factor when I went to pick up the car but once I saw it and especially after I drove it I knew....YES GOOD CHOICE!!!!!!! Thx CAC cuz I wouldn't have done it had I not had the help (Kalani), insight (Vettelt193), and experience (CAC members/ going through old posts) from you all!
Man, I love this site!
It should be mandatory for a 'vette owner to join the CAC. GREAT MEMBERS & everything you ever needed to know about your car!
Had it done at the same time as the lowering. (thx again CAC cuz I learned that here, although my mechanic highly recommended it as well). They lowered it, then drove it a bit to let it settle & then aligned it. He said he kinda gave it the Autox alignment w/ camber adjusted accordingly so that it would corner even better. I'm sure you know what I'm talkin' about.
It looks perfect just the right height! There is a fine line with lowering, your car looks like it could have come from the factory like that, which is just the right amount of low to keep the car's factory lines, while making it look so much meaner:cool
Keep an eye on the inner rear tires for wear in excess of what you find acceptable. I understand that an 'autocross' alignment involves more toe-in plus the extra camber.

I was hoping that you would chime in, as it was you who originally kinda made me aware of the "lowering" option and I know that you have kicked around the idea as well.
Thx for the comments.
I got lucky on this one. Just the look I was striving for.
Looks awesome! Glad to hear you are happy with the ride. I lowered my trans Am a number of years ago, and was never satisfied with the front end travel. After going real wide in the back (315/35/17) on 17x11's I got some horrible fender rub, and tore up a $275 tire. Well... I'm actually dropping the car off today to have it lifted back to stock so I can run those fatty's in back and still take a corner without losing a tire.
