Here are the pics *finally*:
First, digging the hole - 36" deep, belled out at the bottom for foundation

pouring concrete in teh foundation

forms for the pad

finished pad - cured for a week

third wall goes up, they were built off-site and trucked in, 4 walls up in 1 hour

built the roof from scratch, but all rafters etc were pre-cut to exact lengths

finishing up

Whole garage (not including concrete) completed in 3 hours - yes, 3 hours.

Then I did the electrical myself, and that's as far as I've gotten.

Looking good there Ruby. Just make sure that when you are doing the elec work that you put the outlet for the beer frig is a good spot .

I'm heading home this weekend to put the windows in, hang the walk through doors, and paint the floor in mine. I've decided to just use paint. It's cheap and if it starts to crack and peel I can just touch it up. I only have 4 days before i have to be back to work. Labor Day I'll have 2 weeks off. That is when I'll put the rollup door in and do the elec work.

Up in three hours. That is quick:W .

I mentioend earlier, this is only 16x22, so it isn't all that large, I put 12, count em, 12 duplex wall outlets, and a 220v outlet for the welder ( still need to try and remember how to use it, it's been since industrial tech class since I've welded 12 years ago). With 12 outlets, I plan on moving stuff around till I get the best fit. Im debating whether or not to insulate and paint the floor. I'd like to make it a nice looking place, but then again, the woodworking etc will mess it up pretty quick with sawdust even with the dust collection system.

I made some ramps to move the vette out there the other day just for the *&^ of it. Waiting for the asphalt folks to give me a driveway. Also moved my tools and junk over there to start cleaning out the 2 car attached garage. man, the old garage was bigger than I though once my tools and woodworking jigs are moved out!!!

Im debating whether or not to insulate and paint the floor. I'd like to make it a nice looking place, but then again, the woodworking etc will mess it up pretty quick with sawdust even with the dust collection system.

I was going to do the epoxy thing. But I figured that for less than a 1/4 of the price of epoxy I could plaint the floor with a good quality enamel and still have money left over to spot paint for years to come. What gave me the enamel idea is that I was talking to the guy who runs our auto hobby shop this past weekend and he said that is what they put on their floors (enamel). They were last painted almost 5 years ago and have had to touch up certain areas. But for the amount of traffic they get, which is a lot, they looked decent. I would think that by painting the floors it would be a little easier to clean up saw dust and for sure oil. I know that oil would soak into bare concrete and leave a spot. I think saw dust would be hard to sweep up because of the rough surface of the concrete. That is just my thoughts though.

My brother is an electrican. I'm going to put my boxies and light fixtures where i want them and run the wire. He said that he would show me and help me hook the wires up so I don't screw up. The only things I know about elec work is that if you don't do it right you get the Sh** knocked out of ya:W . If you really screw up you burn the place down:eek .

Anyway, after this weekend the vettes, truck, and tractor can have their new home . The better half has already claimed one corner as hers. So I better get to parking something in there before i lose all rights to the place.

It was about 1/2 (or maybe 2/3) the cost of concrete. I suggest getting a BUNCH of estimates - you'd be amazed how much they can differ for the same little project!!. You can tell on the little while fence on the right side that we still need to level the ground there a little to get the fence to be completely horizontal. I got home last night from a day of 'playing cars' as my wife calls it and saw she had planted some bulb/flowers on that right side along the side of the garage. I know she wants some shrubs and low maintenance bushes or plants on the front side of the garage. It really will make it look nicer with that sort of stuff in place.

I just might investigate about paving my little road back to the vette stable. I have a nice hard dirt path to drive down. I was going to have a concrete apron at the front. But some how that got left out of the project. So I built up the dirt to the edge of the concrete to make me a nice approach into the building. I think paving would work just as good for an apron.

Did they do the grading for the paving?

Yep, they did it all. In fact, since there is less "prep" work for asphalt, they came 1st thing in the morning and were gone shortly after 1pm. It was grass (like my yard) before they showed up. They measured, spray painted the "outline", used their skidloader/bobcat to excavate, used their paving machine to lay a good 6" of base rock, used the roller and tamper to tamp it down, then used the paver again to apply 3-4" of asphalt on top, then rolled it, tamped the edges put up an orange tape barrier to keep people off of it and were off to the next job. I used a local family owned business to do it. Kind of neat cause a couple of the guys had brought their boys (ages between 13-16), worked them to death and told them to "stay in school" !!!!!! Guess those kids are guarunteed a summer job!

:L . I bet those kids got a real taste of what its like being a high school drop out. I did drop out for one year. Worked for a construction company that had the I-95 project from Lumberton, NC to South of the Border, SC. About 30 miles of highway construction. After one year of baking in the sun during the summer and freezing during the winter I was more than glad to get my hinnie back in school.

I will check the asphalt route out. It is about several hundered feet back to the building. So if it is way too much then I will just have them do me a nice apron in front of the building.

Heading home on the 26th. I got to go through Carlisle first. Then after a weekend of fun I'll be ready to get started the following Monday. Job plan calls for hanging the over head door first, then painting the floor, then a little landscaping to make the place look good. After that i can start moving tools and crap off the back porch and the old hay shed. I can do the inside elec. work this winter. I too am ready to finish the project.

We just got through remodeling the kitchen (the wifes project) and I have some old kitchen cabnets with counter tops that will work great for storage and should look nice in the garage.

I've been trying to score some old kitchen cabinets too. I'll be helping the guy across the street gut out his new "project" house (he refurbishes and then re-sells) in exchange for the cabinets and countertops. I've still got stuff just sitting in boxes right now

"he-man woman-haters club" is/was that from the little rascals? I better not put that on there or my wife will be upset. She spends ALMOST as much time in there as I do (okay not quite that much) doing our woodworking projects. We are finishing up a 2'x2'x2' cube toybox that looks like one of those "antique" childrens building blocks - with the 1-2-3's and a-b-c's on the faces. She is my painter!!! I call her my "a-princess" and even bought her a pink tool belt for valentines day

Yup, straight from the old show....unfortunately my wife only spends enuff time in the garage to park the '04....I would probably catch h3ll for hanging that up as well. Maybe I'll hang it over the side entry door where no one walking by can see it.

Need a place for my old Gateway to rest and some filing and small storage space. I'm pulling all my old overhead cabinets outta the main garage and putting them in as well. I don't want anything in the house garage except 1 old Vette and 1 new Vette.

I think the landscaping is gonna have to wait until the Texas fall (Nov) when it cools off.

I have a roll-around cart that I am going to use to put my old HP computer on. I want to use it for doing engine scans, computer manuals and such to work on the vettes with. With a 4 gig HD I figure I can do a lot with the computer as an aid to diagnosing problems and doing help stats through the ECM.
