tim-what kind of motor is it? I`m getting ready to order a crate engine myself.I`m taking my time because I want to get the right one from a honest place.

454 GenVI. I found it from an add in the back of the corvette trader after getting ripped off on ebay for $2855.00. This one was $3250.00. Had to put cam in it. The one that was in it was for low-end power-330HP at 2800 rpm. Also replaced the intake and ignition. Went with MSD and Edelbrock for those.

Cam $261
intake $230
MSD $670
Smoking ponies without having to worry about number matching engine PRICELESS!!!!!

Plus Holley elec fuel pump and Holley Avenger 770 carb.

Right now I`m leaning towards the 350 HO from GM. advertised at 330hp. and 382 ft. lbs. or torque. It`s pretty cheap at $2209 being in Cali I`m going to keep my same Carb.

I looked at 454 HO before I found this one. Having been ripped off on the first one I couldn't afford it. The cheapest place I found was www.Paceparts.com and www.salleechevrolet.com. Both were out of state and the tax savings would have paid the shipping.

They were both about $1100 cheaper than the local GM dealers.

Tim,
Lookin good.. How long did it take to swap the old out and the new in?

About 30 hours for everything. Old one out, clean, paint and detail engine bay, install-elec fuel pump-msd box, new one in and connect everything. Had to make some brackets for ac to use with headers and a few other things.

Had it all done down in San Antonio at Performance Restorations.

They did a great job and it looks and sounds GREAT!!!!

I can't wait. Plus now it may stop and steer too. New SS brakes, steering control valve, steering cylinder, steering box, adjustable strut rods, trailing arms bearings and on and on!!! Should be better than new. The tires are new but may need replacing soon!!!!

Nice job...but don't forget to replace your air cleaner assm. Gonna (hopefully) be breathing in more air than that small paper filter will flow. At the very least, go with a 2-3" K&N....

I'm not sure I can get much more air filter under the hood!!!

Mr Spock, Not sure but I will find out. I know it took them about 4 hours to do it. When they ran the pipes on out the rear they wrapped on past the seats to try to take away a little of the heat that comes off that BB and cooks my feet! Like I said above I'm having the work done. I would like to think I could have done it but I know there is no way I could have!!!! In the old days I did that stuff but I had less money and more time. Funny how things change and I'm not sure it is for the better????

Looks good. Quick question: in first pic you have a wire coming over the tope of brake boster, looks tan/yellowish. what does it go to? This wire was cut when i bought mine.

Here it is in a pic of the original motor. Looks orange in this one. I pick the car up on Thursday and will try to trace and let you know.

Here is one from the other side and you can see it is fused running down the side of the fender.

engine?

Tim

What was the engine that you took out? Looking for a good set of heads for my low HP engine.....

Sorry I can't help you on that one. It is the original number matching 454. It is now on a stand in my garage. I'm trying to decide if I want to rebuilt it and store it or just clean it and wait on the rebuild.

engine

Thats cool I am staying small block, looking at putting in 383 crate engine from Beck racing. I have the SB hooker headers and want to keep those. If you look at your first pic it looks as if the orange wire is more forward than the tan, mine is cut as it comes out of harness and see nothing that it could connect to. How hard was it to change plugs on that BB? I have to wrap my headers when I change engine, way to much heat!!
