IF you have the key Fob with you, and you are around the car, it's a PITA. So, I just turned it off. Question, when off, should it open the doors when you push the door button. Mine won't. It does open the rear hatch. The PKE feature works fine when turned on, it locks / unlocks both doors.

PKE

That's the way my '95 works. If the system's off (by holding in the door key until the locks cycle fully), the rear hatch works but if the door was locked with the key or door switch, the fob doesn't work. That is it won't open the door automatically or with the button. If you lose patience and hold the button in long enough, the system turns itself back on. Then the door opens automatically.

Mine will unlock passenger side door with PKE turned off (door button).

The PKE can be programed to open 1 or both doors. With it turned off, it will not unlock doors, only the hatch. So yours is working normally, as it will not unlock doors when turned off.

My door button will unlock passenger side door with PKE turned off. The first post asked if the button will unlock the doors. And so it will, on the passenger side.

Perhaps I should have my car fixed.

With PKE "off" the fob will open the pass/door & the hatch only.

Yes. This is what I have said, what the owners manual says and what the original poster asked. My buttons work the same regardless of the state of the "passive" keyless entry funtion of the fob. Whether "PKE" is on or off is immaterial. Pushing a button on the fob is not a passive act.

I Agree with ya!
