For some reason someone before me removed the letters on my 68. I need a template or could some one measure the distance between each letter and the distance between the inside tail light to the first letter and maybe measure from license bezel to the letters. Or if you did it a diff. way please let me know. Thank you for your time.

If you want to add letters, look on the inside of the taillight panel for the original holes. They were probably just filled with bondo and visible from the back side. You may need to do a little sanding to make them visible. After finding the original holes, just drill them out.

Red69, I tried that but I can really feel the holes. I would have to remove the whole thing to drill from the back, so since it is easier drilling from the front I want to make a template unless someone has one. I just need some one to measure and I think I can do it.

olouieo,
I'm going out to measure right now and I will post in a few minutes...

It is roughly 3 5/16" from the light lens and there is approx 3/4" between each letter....there's a little less than that between the R and V.

The assembly manual doesn't give any dimensions, just stick 'em on and go....

Thanks Cee, (68Roadster) I am assuming that if you were to put a straight line the middle of the lights it would line up with the middle of the letters. Do you understand what I mean?

I'll get you some exact measurements tonite when I get home.....and it's still daylight!

If I can easily remove mine, I'll try rubbing you a template....

I'm not hammering these letters out.....been stuck i there too long I guess. I never realized how bad mine look til I looked at the pictures I took. Anyway, no rub of the holes possible. Be advised they are very small holes and you should be able to locate them on the back side. An angle drill would allow you to get in there and get to them.

PM or e-mail me your e-mail address and I can send you the pics I took. You are correct, the center of the letters is pretty much the center of the light lens.

Later....

Roadster, can you get to the nubs on the backside. if so,take some construction paper and make a template that way. if it works i want a copy too...

hope this helps

Robin

Robin,
Never thought about that.....PM your address and I will send a copy.....

I popped the letters out and have created a template from aluminum for you guys.

As you can see from the pics, there are two size holes. The templates are drilled with two different sizes. If your letters don't fit thru the holes you may need to go a size bigger.

Also, the bottom of the template is 2 3/4" from the license plate frame, the rule is stuck down behind the frame, not resting on top of it.

All I ask is that you don't hold me responsible for the drilling and that you pass along the template to anyone that needs it.

(Check the second "T" before drilling, I think the small hole is off just a bit....)

Cee, thank you very much for the template. i wasn't expecting it so soon.nor was i expecting the template to be so nicely made. (attn.CAC'rs) he made it out of aluminum with arrows and notes on it!
another shining example of a fellow corvette enthusiast helping out . i wish we had some sort of award for people that go beyond the norm

hats off to CEE

sincerely

Louis,

I mailed the template, sorry for the delay, holiday weekend and all....
Make sure you have the template centered before drilling. Yours is 3.5" from the tailight ridge to the first hole for the "C"....

Robin,
Same goes for yours.....3.5" from the ridge to the first hole.....see pics.

Cee, once again, i thank you. i got mine very quickly and nicely done too!
